Child And Mental Health Services

Georgia Said:

What rights do I have as a parent when it comes to child protection services?

We Answered:

None...they have all the rights and have ruined many lives. They are a money making agency and if you want to read about them go to Yahoo groups and search for CPS or child protective rights etc. There are many yahoo groups they give loads of information. But you are on an uphill battle. I had 3 employee are the same time who were fighting them. They take false anonymous reports as factual, they twist facts and make people follow rules and take classes that are all but impossible to manage. They do surrprise visits mas early as 7:15 in the morning and expect the most ridiculous things. I thougy it was a good watch agency until I saw up close and personal how they act like storm troopers and drive people literally crazy with their tactics. Lawyers who take cases aren't much better. I have tried to help the women who worked for me who I viewed as good responsibe mothers employees and women with vicous ex husbands, relatives, neighbors and once CPS get involved they do not let go. How about the accuation that you cannot take care of you child because they went to school 3 times without brushing their teeth...that is what our tax dollars are spent om uncovering. I've seen it with my own eyes. Also if you are white it is worse....as those children are very adoptable and the state/county gets money from the federal goverment every time a foster child is adopted out of family. Also the get $200.00 every time a foster child is moved from foster home to foster home. Now you know why a child will have been in multiple foster homes. Child Protective agencies are a money making machines. They traffic in children and nobody will listen to these desperate mothers. There is more abuse in foster homes then in families...that fact was briefly mentioned on Dr Phil just recently. Because it is a goverment agency, news services are very careful what the report.
Good luck....you have a very difficult rope to walk....so much for confidance with a health care worker.
I would like to know the outcome. You problem could be solved simply with medicaine but them compound it with taking your children. Well they just created more jobs for them selves for years to come and have damaged your children in the process. They don't care about children...they care about their pockets.. I never believed it was true until I saw it happen!!

What is the name of the Assembly Bill in California for Therapeutic behavioral Services for miniors?

We Answered:

The term "theraputic behavioral services" does not appear in any California statute or pending bill that I can find. California does have statutory regulation of mental health services for minors, but "Jim, I'm a lawyer, not a doctor," and I don't know what "SED" means in order to point you in the right direction.

leaning disabilities in the mental health system...right or wrong?

We Answered:

Learning disorders are a mental health condition. They are diagnosed by psychologists. Learning is mental.

But you're right about one thing. Mental illness and learning disorders are two very different things that would require different services. However, if you are of school age, many issues of mental illness and learning disorders may overlap and some of the same services may be appropriate.

If more money was put into the treatment of adolescent mental health, could adult services be reduced?

We Answered:

i believe it would be an excellent idea to put more money into proactive health care for maintaining and ensuring good mental health in young people.

Definitely not a waste or an unnecessary action.

It could possibly prevent problems in early adulthood such as depression. Not sure about later life, as we do forget things and perhaps need continual reminding.

I believe we do need better understanding in young people of such conditions so they can keep an eye on their friends and make sure they are well. I think social circumstances can contribute to mental health problems.

It would be interesting to find out if it could also reduce the incidence of schizophrenia.

I think nurses, psychologists and other doctors already treat "sick" adolescents with mental health issues. The problem is that not all sick people are seen by the nurses, so the nurses really need to do a bit more health promotion and proactively find ill youngsters. This could prevent the kids from commiting homicides / mass murders later down the track.

I really do blame the health professionals for such incidents as suicides and homicides, because not everyone knows it, but they do actually have an obligation to promote health and be more proactive about pinpointing illness in the population and stuff. Instead they often just wait for people to come to them. And even when you visit your doctor, they only seem to investigate what ever complaint you tell them about. Only people with private insurance seem to be offered regular physicals.

Change theories [that people need to be "ready & willing" before they can become healthier] are not really appropriate in this discussion because children & many young people are very impressionable. Change theories are more appropriate for encouraging people who are addicted to cigarettes to become non-smokers. People know cigarettes are unhealthy, where as there isn't always insight when it comes to a deteriorating mental health state. Ie it is ridiculous to expect a young person to visit a professional and say "help me i am sick" when they may not know anything about mental illnesses, so do not understand they are not well.

Please help! Misdiagnosed by Community mental health services - rucurrent depressive disorder.?

We Answered:

I was diagnosed with BOTH major depression - recurrent - and borderline personality disorder. A clinical psychologist came up with this diagnosis first and a psychiatrist later confirmed it. So it is possible to be diagnosed with both. I am, however, no success story as I have yet to find medication that agrees with me and the personality disorder is not treated with medication and I have yet to find the right talk therapist, but I am working on it. I attend several groups and have hope for the future. My symptoms are very similar to yours. My best advice is to avoid self medicating with drugs and/or alcohol. My experience is that this only creates additional problems. Try emotions anonymous.

Why are some people disadvantaged for utilizing mental health services?

We Answered:

in the real world helpers help.
mental health is used to help the mentally ill.
site one REAL, not imagined, or hypothetical case where past mental illness(not current) has been used as grounds for removal of a child.
then i will be able to answer.
hypothetical questions are just that. hypothetical.....
2points?

do you think you might need some help?
are scared that you dreams of having children may be harmed by a possible diagnosis?

unfortunatelly kids are much more likely to be left in the hands of the mentally unfit, than removed from the mentally able and stable homes.
