Need recommendation for a child or youth hospital for diabetes in U.S. Please help!!!!?We Answered:
It sounds like he could be a diabetic that has not been treated. Blurry vision is one of the symptoms for high blood sugar not treated. He could very well be in DKA....if he is he needs to be treated immediately...or he will die. I have been through this....a lot of hypoglycemic pt's become diabetic. He will bounce around until his beta cells finally quit working....sounds like they are. INSIST on them checking him for type 1 diabetes. You could also go to a pharmacy and ask for ketone strips........(you do not need a prescription for this) have him pee on it and see if he has any ketones. If he does....then he is in very serious danger.....take him to an emergency room. If he doesn't and you want to look for a hospital in the US. I know that Cooks Children's Hospital in FT. Worth Texas is good and Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio is very good. I hope this helps. One more thing...I have a friend who's son had the exact same symptoms. The ER thought she was crazy.....finialy a Dr. overheard them talking and told them to test for diabetes....sure enough ....he was in ICU for 4 days and was told if they had waited 12 more hours he would be dead! So it is good that you are concerned.

The issue of health care is generally not as much of a priority to the youth as it is to older people? We Answered:
I have two daughters who presently don't have insurance. Their employers don't offer health insurance or at a rate that is out of this world. What do you do when you need a doctor. And do you really think that younger people don't need healthcare?I am all for Hillary's plan (that comes the closest) to Universal Healthcare.

What can we do to prevent as well as lower the rate of obesity in today's youth? We Answered:
Watch the movie, "Super Size Me".They have great ways to help. Sure the movie bags on fast food ... but it also has many necessary and realistic ways to make children's diets better.
One of the most fascinating segment in the movie was when they visited a "Alternative School" for children with stuff like ADHD & other behavior prob's ... The students weren't running around like maniac's and the movie suggested it's because of the "Fresh Caffeteria Food". This school feed vegtables, fruits, and fresh meat. Then they went to a public school where hamburgars, hot dogs, and other "Government Food" was being served. Those kids were a mess!!!
In short I like the movie's suggestions:
1. Good food at school.
2. More exercise classes.
3. Remove vending machiens from school.

Hi I am interested in mental health and well being for youth.?We Answered:
Hi, it's a really rewarding career path. How about NVQ in mental health support work?, or NVQ advice and guidance? Both of these exist, and are recognised qualifications.look on the NVQ website and they can tell you if there are courses being run locally to you. Many places of work are looking for these kinds of qualifications now, and if you have the firm intention to achieve it, many will sponsor them too!

AT WHAT AGE DO YOU FEEL IS APPROPRIATE FOR A CHILD/TEEN TO HAVE A CELLPHONE? DO YOU SET...?We Answered:
I think it varies on the age/maturity factor of the child and the need factor. As not all kids mature at the same rate, or are mature enough to understand the costs/restrictions of a cell phone. Some 10 yrs olds are and some 14+ yr olds are not...B4 we moved to Alaska, I used Nextel, and I had 3 older extra phones at home, and they all have walkie talkie only on them. They could walkie me or the other phones as well as some of the family friends and other family in the area, as they were all programmed in. My 2 eldest had a couple friends that had a nextel also so they had thier walkie programmed in. But NO calling mode. After a really high bill one month, I got ride of the calls/texting on the phones and allowed them to use the walkies. My eldest, then 13 really wanted to text so he saved up and I helped split the cost of a pay as you go plan phone and it worked out pretty good after he learned you cant waste it. The walkie talkie only worked great. The boys could keep in touch if some were fishing and some were at the park or etc. And they knew and learned fast that if I sent an alert they needed to answer within 2 minutes, even if in a B-Ball game. Because in 2 min I would start talking and it might embarass them or such, as I always made sure to say, are you Ok, and dont be late, and I love you, if they had not responded to the alert and if you have older boys, you know how that works... Also I had enabled the GPS tracking feature in the phone so I could always find them/the phone if they did not respond or the volume got turned down, and that did happen, so it was a very safe way to know where they were! I also had the 2 way radios and we used them when we went to the park and the mall, but the nextel worked even better, except when out camping and such.
I would suggest the walkie talkie only features of the nextel for parents, esp if you have one and some of your friends do also.
But for a normal Cel Phone, I like the limited use ones or prepayed ones for kids, incase its lost or stolen or traded or who knows what, and also I think for most it should be at least age 12-13 or older. And have them help pay for it. You can buy the phone, they pay for the minutes, or you give the first $20 a month and they pay the rest but if they run out of minutes they cant go out, because you cant reach them. They learn to conserve a lot better the first time that happens!
I suggested to a friend to look at the Disney cell phone because they think their 10yr odl should have a phone, and I know the disney plan is restricted and the parents can view the calls and I think even track the phone. All phones for kids should be GPS trackable I think!!!!
