Alexander Said:

Scientist claims "breast milk is no more beneficial for a child's health than formula milk"?

We Answered:

I find it interesting that the newspaper article says 'this study says there is no difference nutritionally between the two'.
I've READ the study (rather dry and boring reading, but still) and NOWHERE in it does the author come to the conclusion that there is no nutritional difference between the two.
The study focuses solely on factors that appear to influence the breastfeeding SUCCESS rate of women, and says that women with high levels of male hormones in their bodies while pregnant appear to have a lower chance of success. Now given that most of the women I know who struggled to breastfeed had MALE children, I feel there is a good bit of circumstantial evidence to back that up.

The study also concluded that maternal smoking, alcohol consumption, and low maternal weight also increased the chances of poor breastfeeding success- which are things that lactation consultants have been telling us for years!

I HAVE read an extract of a study that DID say there is no difference between the two, HOWEVER it said that 'after eliminating the variables of parental lifestyle, nutrition, intelligence and education levels there appears to be minimal difference between breastmilk and formula nutritionally' It also said that there appears to be a major psychological development advantage to the breastfed babies.

What needs to be remembered when reading these things is that they are STUDIES, research if you will, working to increase our knowledge and point us in the right direction for future studies- they are NOT scientific fact!

Nina Said:

Do you think the government or health agencies have the right to take away a child who is obese?

We Answered:

No, I don't for that reason alone.
I do think that they should have to attend a mandatory diet and fitness program as a family. Many times the caregivers are overweight too. I think it should be in a "fun" setting like the T.V. show "The Biggest Looser" where they teach you all the basics and provide a lot of moral support. Once you learn how to look after yourself better, you gain confidence. They have had whole families loose weight on that show not just individuals and couples. The results were amazing!

Joseph Said:

Hawaii Universial child health care ending after 7 months?

We Answered:

The program was intended to use federal funds from SCHIPS, but Bush killed that.

What is sad, is that Republicans won't even get their act together for the sake of kids- unless of course they haven't been born yet.

Kristina Said:

How can I get my articles published in magazines?

We Answered:

Find a mag that you like and find the specific editor of the section that your articles might be published in. Get the persons contact info. Email them and let them know your background. Call them if possible. Submit a piece of your work only if they ask for it.

Familiarize yourself with mags that you are not familiar with, but would like to be published in. Don't stop until you see your name in print.

Jo Said:

Does the Universal child health care cancellation in hawaii prove that universal health care is a mistake?

We Answered:

It shows that there are serious problems with such a program.

I think a much better solution would be to revisit many of the existing government regulation that distorts the markets and makes health insurance so expensive to start with.
