Minimum wage was put in place because companies were paying such awful wages that most people couldn't live on the wages they made. You don't seem to understand. Companies will pay as little as they can get away with! THEY DON'T CARE HOW MANY KIDS YOU HAVE or if your wife doesn't work! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR HOW YOU MAKE IT. THEIR ONLY CONCERN....IS GETTING AS MANY PEOPLE TO WORK, AS CHEAP AS THEY CAN!!! For their own benefit!!!!!!

The republicans always VOTE AGAINST raising minimum wage, because they want to help big business. They have always been and will always be on the side of big business. Not the side of workers!!!!! That is why they try to convince people that Unions are no longer neccessary! It would be like reversing abortion. Only if that happened, it would just go back to closet abortion's.

As far as unions. You should understand that when unions came about....there were no safety standards for workers. There was no OSHA to protect workers. If a worker got injured or killed on the job, there was no compensation for the family. The wages were so low, people were barely able to even keep shoes on their kids. Clothes were passed down until they were strings. Families had a hard time feeding their families. That is why unions were formed. Workers found that if they bonded together and demanded better conditions, and went on strike if the better conditions weren't met, the companies would be forced to work out the issues with the workers voices being heard, rather than just telling a soul worker....too bad, then quit if you want to. Unions have actually created a society whereby wages are better than what they would be if Unions weren't around. Union jobs provide a better wage than Non-Union jobs. By providing better paying jobs, it actually makes other companies that don't have Unions...pay better. They have to...to stay competitive. If the Unions were to go away....all the work of all the Americans who lost lives in poor working conditions or were killed fighting for better conditions and wages, would be in vain. People who fight against Union's don't seem to realize, companies will go back to paying lower wages and not caring about working conditions if the Unions were lost. That is why in other countries, the workers are not compensated like workers in America.

And NO.....they wouldn't provide ANY EXTRAS like health insurance. Republican's don't like when laws are passed that MAKE companies do anything for the workers. They will ALWAY'S fight against making working conditions and pay better. They will always support big business....which is why they compaign for "smaller government". What they are actually campaigning for is "looser laws" so companies can do what they want. They make people think that smaller government is better....but they don't tell you the real story! It is so that big business can do govern itself! Big Business HAS ALWAYS PUT MONEY IN THE POCKETS of REPUBLICANS! That's just the way it is.
