Ask your niece's parents if their daughter is covered by their health insurance. If they have health insurance for your niece, then you'll need a copy of her insurance information anyway to present to the ER or doctor's office.

Whether they have insurance or not, ask them how they want you to handle the situation should your niece suddenly need unexpected medical care. Do they have backup phone no.'s they can give you in case of an emergency? Because the ER, first and foremost, is going to want to have a signed permission slip from one of her parents before they treat your niece at all (with the exception of a life-or-death emergency).

They'll go after him for 25% of what he makes, or reasonable minimums, which in CA is $250 a month, MINIMUM.

If he doesn't pay, they'll attach his paychecks, attach his wages, and if the amount owed goes over $5,000, they'll suspend the renewal of any licenses he gets through the state, including drivers licenses. If he STILL doesn't pay, then they'll assign him weekend jail time, where he has to pick up trash on the side of the road at $8 an hour, and that whole entire amount, goes to pay the child support.

California is VERY aggressive about deadbeat dads.

I would think who ever can get it the cheapest. Surely you would want your own child have medical coverage. 50/50 sounds fair if you have 50/50 time with the boy. If not then I think whoever has him and is actually the parent (you can't be a parent when you are with him only four days a month) should pick up the medical tab. After all they are the ones who will be making the medical decisions.

It was a bad bill and need vetoing. It included people earning 85,000, and Children age 25. Last time I checked when I was 25 I was married had 2 children of my own and was in the combat zone. I don't think you could legitimately call me a child anymore.
