I'm not clear if you are talking about physical or mental development. Pretty much anything can affect the development. Common cases of jaundice can cause brain damage. Asthma is pretty common and I don't think their are any developmental issues but the steroids are bronchidilators that are used to treat asthma can cause delay in development. Diabetes is really complicated so in short, yes. Insulin is a growth hormone and diabetes is a condition of lack of insulin. Childhood parasitic infections can attack the brain, although rare.

look for local MHMR clinics, (mental health mental retardation.) they go based on your income, and for me, everything is free. from the psychiatrist, and case worker, and also the meds soon :)

Do you mean why do they have MORE health issues than adults? This is because their immune system is not as developed. Also their size can have a lot to do with it. Smaller body size means they lose body heat faster, as well as dehydrate quicker than an adult. But the main reason children get sick more often than adults is the under developed immune system. PS old people have more health problems not because of lowered immune systems but because they are old, and their body is breaking down.. They get "Worn out".

I believe sometime around 40, kids tend to have a lot of problems (retardation, downs syndrome, etc.). Biologically, humans are designed to have kids when they are younger. Waiting to long is really bad.

Why not pick a Children's hospital or many of them to raise funding for? This way almost every child needing help can apply to the fund? They have some Known houses, like the Ronald McDonald House and those are always looking for funds too. This is a great way to raise money and have it go to the right people too. I really hope you consider something like this in your area. If not already there, then the nearest Children's hospital would be grateful if you were to help raise funding for a house like that around where you live.
