As a mother and a nurse I will tell you if you have a disability you can call the hot-line number in the front of your phone book and they can help you you can try this number 800-422-4453 it is the child abuse and neglect hot-line number I know you are not a child but they can refer you to the right agency to help you they have wonderful group homes for disabled people.. with people who are there to help you be the best you can be in life....you would have a support system and help you need....remember just because you have a disability does not mean you can not help yourself get out of this abusive situation really if you can type this you can make a phone call to get you out of it..there are people who will in fact help you...good luck and god bless I will keep you in my prayers.

Of course this conflict is going to end up in court!! It depends on where you want to move to. IE out of the country would probably be ruled unacceptable. If you are in country and can make reasonable accommodations for visitation, than you will probably be allowed to move.
I have friends as medical professionals that had to turn down great opportunities because of the location of the job offers. One was out of country and this was not allowed. Another was in country and not allowed because of logistics of visitation. Sometimes the court will rule that you must remain in a certain geographic distance from the non custodial parent. Other cases, the non custodial parent has the visitation that you described. ie; 2 weeks in the summer, etc.
As far as going to parent conferences and school activities; the court usually feels that although the non custodial parent has not attended in the past, it does not mean that they should be denied the opportunity in the future.

Eek - if you're looking for a job and assistance with child care, Michigan is the last place you should be going.

(I'm a Michigan native and LOVE my home state...but its in the more trouble than any state in the nation right now.)

Government programs are being slashed left and right, because the state's budget is in such bad shape. That's probably why they aren't accepting adult applications for Medicaid. And I'd be surprised if there were any child care benefits available for you, unfortunately.

My sister-in-law is covered by Michigan Medicaid. (She's severely mentally retarded and incapable of working.) We recently received a letter announcing major cuts to the Medicaid benefits. Its an unfortunate necessity to keep the basics of the program afloat right now, I suppose.

It makes it sound like he's hardly even part of your children's lives when you say he's just putting in his every other weekend for two days, but the truth is that relationship is always much more involved than that. Some of my closest friends are people I only see a couple of times in two weeks.

And even if your kids feel rejected by him and don't like him, a child's relationship with their father becomes a huge part of their definition of themselves. That short visit every other weekend will be the grasp your kids get at all the things a kid learns from their father. Even if he's not a great example, that relationship is important unless he's downright abusive.

The school events are meaningless in the grand scheme. Whether he goes or whether he doesn't, his rights as a father and your children's needs to have their father in their lives are the important things that need to be considered.
