Child Mental Health Services

Bessie Said:

How expensive is mental health services for someone who was abused as a child and has no insurance?

We Answered:

It’s great that you’re reaching out for help to do and that you’re able to recognize that you need help outside of yourself. However, it’s unfortunate that you had to experience so much trauma and difficulties during your childhood. Therapy is definitely a great service that can help you identify the underlying issues that you are experiencing as well as how to help you make a plan to move forward in a positive way. There are clinics that offer services to low income or uninsured clients at a discounted rate. There are also several mental health professionals that offer a sliding scale fee which is based on your income. If you need help finding a mental health provider in your area that offers a discounted rate – please give us a ring at the Boys Town National Hotline. We have counselors available 24/7 to chat and to offer resources and referrals.

To whom do I report staggering incompetence in the Nevada State Child Welfare/Mental Health departments?

We Answered:

The nice thing about government agencies is that there are always other agencies on top, like a pyramid. Find out who is head of this particular agency, and go to that person. If that doesn't help, then go to their superior, and so on. The local papers, senators, and representatives are a good idea, as well. If you can find your local representative, I'd suggest making an appointment to sit down in his office and discuss it---it's easier to get your point across that way than in a letter.
Go all the way up to the governor if you have to. Best of luck to you.

Adam Said:

Does anyone have a personal experience with "wraparound" mental health services?

We Answered:

My understanding of a wrap around service is one that focuses all that makes the individual relevant, meaning rather then looking at an individual as only having the one aspect to them and treating the one. A wrap around approach will take into account a number of factors and treat accordingly.

Strength based...my understanding is that it is a positive approach focusing on the strengths of a client. Gone are the days where clinicians, educationalists and the like would focus on the problem always attempting to solve/make better a problem or negative situation. Today we focus on the strengths of a client/student and build on that.

Not knowing anything about your situation I can say that from my experience is wrap around approaches, processes work quite well! Your right as a parent will never be abdicated, it can't!

Be part of the process and gather around some support people from you community or other social service providers.

All the best.

Children's mental health services?

We Answered:

If she was still a minor she could qualify under Healthy Family's. But , if she is an adult, and works, maybe there is a health plan through employment?
It might be just as well to pay out of pocket if you are going to be reimbursed .
