Child Mental Health

Randy Said:

Why is physical play and exercise good for a child's mental health?

We Answered:

Physical play can include activites that involve pretend play, which is a great way for children to use their imagination. It also allows them to interact with other children, and to learn how to do things. Physical play can also allow a child to show emotions, such as happy. This helps their mental health tremendously. Also exercise can be in a group activity, making the child feel involved and loved. If you isolate a child and do not allow them to interact it can cause them to feel alone, left out, sad, this will have a great impact on their mentality.

Brad Said:

child mental health problems that can help them get erased... or seal..... Or find me to be in perfect health?

We Answered:

Do you mean help them "heal." Well it's a law of nature that childhood experiences affect someone as an adult. It has to do with brain development. You can't do anything about that, at least right now.

What do you mean by "child mental health problems"? There are several laws in the US, that help adults get mental health help. For example, health insurance companies usually have to pay for mental health coverage and there are community mental health centers where you can get treatment. many therapists will also do sliding scale or reduced rates. If you have health insurance, you should find a therapist and get treatment there. Also perhaps go to a doctor for medication.

If you are talking about ADHD or other "childhood" problems, then you can still get help for those as an adult. In fact in many cases it isn't diagnosed until adulthood.

It sucks that you didn't get help earlier, but that's the way it is sometimes.

What happens when you turn 18, and are involved in a child and adolescent mental health service?UK?

We Answered:

I'm sorry that I can't answer specifically for the UK, but I would imagine that the system is quite similar to the one we have in Finland. If only a bit of whatever your treatment is remains, then they will probably continue to treat you within the adolescent mental health service. They aren't that strict about the cut off point, particularly when you have a long history of treatment as an adolescent. However, if you may still require treatment for many years, you will be transferred to the adult mental health service.

I am doing a training on infant and child mental health. I would like to use movie clips any suggestions?

We Answered:

I am also in the mental health field and work with preschoolers. What types of behaviors are you wanting to show? The Nanny has excellent examples on behavioral interventions with this age group.
