Not in the UK, but something to keep in mind.

religious zealots, bigots and conservatives live in denial - they find it easy to blame everyone else whilst ignoring the consequences to their own actions
religious bigots get to hide behind their holy book and think that even if they are a bigot then they are right, christianity even has it's own persecution complex

well i'm now doing A Levels and like you had to choose 3 options (we HAD to do our first language which in my case was German) although I also chose to do french...

at the start of GCSE i had done 3 years of german whereas only 2 of french but i found french much easier personally and have now dropped german and continued french to A Level...

For us gay people, that's not a surprise. We are taught to feel bad for who we are, that are life is worthless, and we are discriminated against in school, work, and by adults and peers even in childhood.

Then people through it in our faces that we are promiscuous and alcoholics, and although alot of gay people might be, those that are, are often that way from the oppression that have felt that has led them to drink, be promiscous, or to commit suicide.

You make great points in your question. We have here another classic case of Labor 'Social Engineering', reminiscent of the Whitlam, Hawke and Keating era, when Political Correctness was born and flourished.
Can't the government stay out of our lives for once? It's not their job to take over parental control, and bringing up everyone's kids. Their job is to spend the tax dollars we give them wisely, and make sure there are sufficient facilities and services to run the country smoothly. Their job is not to tell all Aussies how to run their lives, how to bring up their kids and what we can and can't see/watch/enjoy/have options for.
This is another communist style edict, typical of Labor governments through Australia'a history, and I, as a passionate, thinking Australian, have had enough!!
