Health Insurance Child Only

Gail Said:

My son's father just got health insurance for him. (Only because it is ordered through child support.)?

We Answered:

Anything you pay out of pocket is a medical expense. Since you don't pay the insurance premiums, you can't deduct those.

You can only deduct medical expenses if you itemize, and even then can only deduct the part of the expenses that is more than 7.5% of your income, so unless you have huge medical bills, you usually can't deduct them.
