I would agree that it sounds like seizure behaviour, but not the aftermath of the seizure, this sounds like a seizure itself.

Partial seizures frequently manifest themselves as odd sensory experiences. Hallucinations can be part of this and are terrifying for the individual experiencing it. The temporal lobe includes a lot of the sensory stuff, and the frontal lobe includes a lot of the higher order functions like impulse control and reasoning.

Have your friend document everything she sees even if it does not seem like part of the episode itself. The setting of the incident, what he was doing prior to it, how he has been sleeping, how he is afterwards, anything she can think of. It may seem like a lot of nonsense, but the neurologist can get far more out of too much information than too little.

If there are abnormalities in the EEG or MRI, they will have a better idea what is going on, but if they are unremarkable, that does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening. The EEG can be normal even if the child is having seizures - a scalp EEG reads effectively only the outer surface of the brain (most seizures come from this area) but in many cases the readings are normal between seizures. Evidence of a seizure may remain in the tracings for up to 48 hours (inter-ictal activity) but again, this is not written in stone. The neurologist will take the history as one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.

The idea of seizures is terrifying for any parent, but it is not the end of life itself. Finding out what is going on and helping your friend's son is important, and there are many medications that are very effective in treating seizures in kids.
