Kids Health Information

Jim Said:

I'm trying to get information about enrolling my kids in GA schools?

We Answered:

You should go to the schools for information, and look in the yellow pages for health clinics.

Lois Said:

How do I properly handle health care information for my step-daughter?

We Answered:

Her father should have filled out a form making you a legal guardian. Dad needs to file the claim.

Guy Said:

Authorization form for Protected Health Information, should we fill them out?

We Answered:

no, it does not mean info is released to whoever. it is laid out in hipaa who receives phi. you as parents can fill it out for the kids unless they are 18 and over. for claims processing those forms do not need to be signed as a specific section of the hipaa privacy law deals with payment.

i have NEVER received a phi form from an insurance company. if you did, someone is requesting information from them. get the specifics in writing before signing the papers.

Sara Said:

Where could I find information regarding Emergency Room procedures in American hospitals?

We Answered:

In the U.S., if it is a true medical emergency and death was imminent, anyone will be treated immediately upon arrival to stabilize them. However, there are legal restrictions on what can be done beyond that point, because parents have legal control over what medical procedures their kid receives. Doctors or Nurses (or police) would have to find the parents for authorization to continue needed treatment, e.g., surgery. If the kid can walk into the ER and plunk down a stack of cash, then obviously they don't have a medical emergency that would classify them as a dire medical emergency where death was imminent. Thus, in that circumstance, then no, they could not be treated without consent of their parent(s).

Willard Said:

Is a puggle (pug/beagle) a good breed for kids, other animals, health, and...?

We Answered:

Puggles are the best of both breeds and in my experiences have always been good with children. Now thats not to say there aren't some psycho puggles out there - I just haven't run into any.

The puggles I know have no more, nor no less health issues then any other dog.
