Kids Health Issues

Tyrone Said:

Do you know about recent pediatric health issues?

We Answered:

These are all non-specific symptoms - you won't find the diagnosis on the web. If you are really concerned, get her to see a doctor.

Dave Said:

Where can a single mother with 2 kids (21 18) get low cost health insurance?

We Answered:

Well, those two kids are technically adults. You'd need to go to a local agent, to get quotes.

If you want a low deductible plan, it's probably going to cost about $1200 a month, IF your mom is perfectly healthy, and no one is overweight. To get a much cheaper rate, you have to agree to pay the first $5,000 or so out of pocket, in medical expenses, before the insurance kicks in.

Obviously, if anyone has anything already wrong with them, the insurance will either most likely not cover it, or they'll refuse to write you at all.

Best thing to do, will be for your mom to get a 'real' job, where she can get group health insurance through her employer.

After YOU are employed, that won't help your mom or brother, as YOU won't be able to add either of them to YOUR insurance.

Is it a good idea to plan on getting pregnant when you yourself have health issues?

We Answered:

i have spina bifida and hydrocephalus. my husband and i decided that we wanted to have a baby reguardless of all my health problems. the doctors told me that i should be able to carry a child but they couldnt tell me for sure. im now 16 weeks pregnant and even though i have my bad days i also have my good days. im starting to feel the baby move now all the time and i know it will be worth it all in the end. my baby has a 1 in 20 chance of having what i have but its a chance we decided to take. it really up to you and if you think that you can handle it. i wish you lots of luck and i know you will make the best choice for you.

Gilbert Said:

is there support groups for someone married to someone with mental health issues?

We Answered:

I'm with "INTROSPECTIVE"; esp. as pertains to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Support groups for family members of those with severe brain disorders is a big part of what happens in the local affiliate groups. To find a local affiliate group. go to http://www.nami.org .

If by chance "old english mastiff" means you are British, NAMI might be able to help you tie in with comparable organizations in the UK.

BTW, many NAMI affiliates also have support groups for "consumers" (those who have the disorder themselves). As a "consumer" myself, it is refreshing to be able to go to the support group I'm part of and know that there are people who know what I'm talking about.

Is it a good idea to plan on a baby when you have health issues yourself?

We Answered:

Well personally for me I would not want want to risk my child having anything wrong with them. So even a 50/50 chance is to high for me. Even if the condition is "not that bad". My biggest concern would be who would take care of my child no matter the age when I am no longer able to. My other concern would be when my child grew up who will take care of him or her when I nor my husband was around anymore.

However, I would like to bring to your attention that you are still very young and have plenty of time to try latter on when your financial circumstance's are better.

On that note I would like to ask what is your husband's opinion? Have you talked to him about how you want children and how strongly you feel about it? Having a baby to raise into a grown healthy productive adult is a decision I think your husband should have say in. Especially since you and he are already in a stressful situation.

Also I do think that he and you may be candidates for surrogacy or even adoption.
