Kids Mental Health

Jon Said:

Question about mental health and kids?

We Answered:

we don't have kids yet, but my husband does have some mild ptsd. and at times lacks compassion, based on what he's been through. i think down the road it will likely affect his style of parenting, but i know regardless he will make a great father. as for having kids with such disorders, i think that's a bridge you cross when you get to it. my mom is a social worker asigned to every child with a mental delay or disorder in our area. i get a lot of info and support from here.

Why do so many mental health workers treat clients like little kids?

We Answered:

I hate going in the hospital and having to deal with people who assume I'm deaf, developmentally delayed, and like finger painting when I am dying inside from a mixed disorder, mania, or depression and need serious medicine and therapy. I try to get permission from my doctor to avoid classes by certain people who patronize or who cause me angst. I have liked art therapy when done by a real professional and when allowed more than 45 minutes to create something, and I especially like it when I get cogent analysis of my work that ties in with my self image. Otherwise, I get permission to stay out of the cutesy, unprofessional stuff. I am still urged to join in, but decline. It has resulted in some hurt feelings, but I figure the staff can handle that better than I can. I also try not to behave like a moron and use big words so the staff knows the lights are on.

When the unprofessionalism gets too bad, as in being feared or treated badly, I report it to the charge nurse on that shift. It helps to learn staff names. I also report it to my doctor. Be specific so that he/she doesn't think you're experiencing paranoia.

Unfortunately, at a time when you're feeling bad, you still have to be your own advocate. It works to some degree. At least some of the staff will be on your side.

I am currently on the Kids Mental health probation. What would happen If I didn't appear in court?

We Answered:

You would be arrested for failure to appear but it is in your best interest to appear ... If you have a mental health problem then there are people who are there to help you ... Go to court and also ask for the help that you are entitled to whilst you are there ... By doing this you may find that the way you deal with your mental health problems become easier ... I have a son with mild schizophrenia and psychosis he is supported by a local mental health team and also the Youth Offending Team from the courts .. Its worth while looking into it as more convictions for failure to appear will in the long run affect you in later life

Are you worried about the mental health of your kids if you live near homosexual couples?

We Answered:

Nope, but I'm sure as hell worried about the mental health of any of YOUR kids.

Thomas Said:

kids mental health help please?

We Answered:

Even specialized centers offer a full range of normal activities, such as art and music. They are a form of therapy because the doctor (psychiatrist) understands where a patient is by his creations.

Patients receive medication, have sessions with their doctor and undergo treatment. The kind depends on the illness and the doctor.
