Honestly, I would do some small finger sandwiches, some kind of dip with crackers, a fruit tray and a veggie tray. I think that is simple enough. And coffee and tea is all you need for drinks.

While some people may eat before they come, some may be expecting some food and hold out for the party. That is my personal experience anyway.

I have researched this before via google and found a myriad of answers.

All I know is my son called everything dada until he was about 20 months old. I have no clue how many words he can say at 22 months (now) but I know it is too many to count and keep track of. My son understood over 100 words/commands/expressions, etc at 17 months but certainly didn't speak them.

Maybe parents are confusing words their kids "know" with words they say. Or maybe they really are misinterpreting gibberish and hearing what they want to hear. My son didn't really start speaking gibberish until recently (about a month now.) He whispers it, it's pretty funny.

You can read to your baby more but that won't make him talk. My nephew and younger cousin did not utter a single word until they were over 3 and they are both very smart (and had mothers who were elementary teacher and read to them alot.)

I think those mothers are taking credit they don't deserve! It's ridiculous.
