Jennie Said:

Millennium Development Goals - realistic?

We Answered:

I think they are all realistic, we just lack the political will to see these things come to their full fruition. The non-profits/NGOs of the world are doing a great job and are making great strides around the world. The full support of the US, the EU, the UN, and other countries from around the world would be very helpful. I don't want to drag politics into it, but ending the war in Iraq and using that money to lift people up around the world would be my recommendation. It would be a far wiser investment by bringing us far more global security and would improve our standing in the world.

G8 GOALS ATTAINABLE OR NOT ATTAINABLE?

We Answered:

Realistically, not at all. They can help and work to reduce any problems, they can have peace talks and summits, but in the end, it's all really more of a feel good PR thing.

Suggestions for creating art based upon the Millennium Development Goals?

We Answered:

You could do one or more diptychs, where one panel depicts a relevant biblical scene and passage with a corresponding contemporary one with a millennium goal.

So for instance for Goal 2 you could use Proverbs 1:2-4

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

illustrated with a picture of Solomon instructing a child and on the other panel the words of the goal, illustrated by a contemporary child receiving primary education

for Goal 4 you could use Mark 5:40-42

But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked;

and so on
