Paediatric Child Health

Max Said:

Would you put your child's healthcare over your own?

We Answered:

I would say that it is serious in both your husband and your child. Cancer is a very serious condition. If they were to find it again, and they do so early then there is more of a chance that he could get treatments and everything could be okay rather than the alternative. I see that your son has problems as well, and honestly both should be put at the same level of priority!
I'm going to be blunt here, what would you do if your husband died of cancer because he wasn't put at the same level of priority as your son??

Dentist wants to sedate my 7 year old child for restorative work - Canada?

We Answered:

I am from the U.S. thus some of my input may not be reliable for you.

You could try another general dentist or pediatric dentist who is willing to work with you and your son. Perhaps they could break the treatment up into a number of visits and do the smaller ones first. All these would be while awake. Perhaps he could learn to control his anxiety to some extent. I have seen dentists that will let parents in the room during routine procedures.

I am an RN and have worked in hospitals that allowed the parents to be in the room when we started IV's, drew blood, and did other procedures. In other places that was strictly forbidden. In most cases it was less stressful on child, parents, and staff to have the parents there. This is a continuing debate among pediatric care providers.

Although your son has done well with other types of procedures, the anxiety over dental ones is understandable. Dental procedures invade our personal space more than topical treatment to a foot. Dentists enter our body and are on top of us.

I understand your concern about him being sedated for such a long time. Both your dentists are trained professionals. Still things can go wrong. A child died in my area a couple of years ago during a similar dental procedure. Risks are everywhere. Children have been killed riding in the car with mom.

Training to be a nurse?

We Answered:

Math and science are very important in nursing.

Vicki Said:

can someone plz explain this to me?

We Answered:

seems pretty simple their contention is that failing to maintain a healthy lifestyle for your child is a for of neglect.. it is .. in their minds... identicle to if the diet you provided was so bd that the child was subject to say rickets... if Parents maintained such a diet and the kid suffered from rickets i am sure no one would have an issue.. the contention here is that being grossly overweight is just *** much a threat to the childs welfare.

medical or health professions involving children.?

We Answered:

If you are in the US then there is not a bachelor of nursing, there is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (it is a science degree). You do not major in pediatric nursing at the bachelors level, you study a general professional nursing program which leads to a license as a registered nurse, you may work in pediatrics with this degree, as there is no specialization for general hospital work at the entry level, you could also work in a newborn nursery or neonatal icu. Midwifery in the US is a graduate degree after the BSN and requires a Master of Science in Nursing.

Other fields where you can work with children would be speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist.

What differences are there between children and adults that makes it necessary to have paediatric services?

We Answered:

Children have different matabolisms and complications that require specialist training - especially when it comes to perscribing drugs. Not to mention that child pyschology is very different from that of adults. A special "bed-side" manner is required when dealing with children. There are also legal issues that need to be addressed - namly that the patient is not the consenting adult.
