Pain In Child Health

Minnie Said:

Why do people come to the United States for health care? When they have the rest of the world to choose from?

We Answered:

Because we have the best system in the world.

Emma Said:

Which would you save if you could: A 10 y/o child in pain & dying of cancer, or a fertilized human egg?

We Answered:

If you mean save as in live, then the 10 y/o without a doubt. The child would know they were dying, have a life story, and then know that they were going to live. The fertilized egg lacks any emotions and is just dividing cells and not yet a person with self-knowledge. While you site this as a choice you make when opposing health reform, unfortunately this is not a very factual situation as currently, nothing will save a child in the last stages of cancer.

8YR old that is stressing and worring to much about health?

We Answered:

sounds like he might suffer from anxiety. I just read a great book that explained the relationship between anxiety and OCD (Obsessive Compulsion Disorder). I always thought OCD just had to be when some touches a door knob a certain number of times, or they repeat certain actions. Instead, I learned that OCD and anxiety are partners. When someone is feeling anxious - they will resort to a familiar routine to soothe themselves from the anxious feelings. Your son may be resorting to the crying or the tics as a way to try to make the "bad feelings" go away. I have a 10 yr old who occassionally suffers from anxiety. When she does it is REALLY bad. I can so understand your position. I put my daughter in counseling. It is very scary to a child. For the first few years (my daughters anxiety is eposodic) she would worry as you describe. It finally manifested itself into full blown panic attacks that were occurring 3 to 5 times a day. It is something to stay on top of. Also, on a lighter note, it can be dealt with and kept under control through counseling. It is very common and most of the times hereditary.

Do you really need to take child birth classes?

We Answered:

You sound prepared and if you have any questions about labor and delivery you can ask your doctor unstead of going to the classes. None of my sisters did. They said that women give birth all the time and they would watch movies and go on a tour like you did, but not to waste time or money on classes that they couldn't afford to attend. So no you don't have to go, it is up to you and your husband.
