Code Of Ethics For Doctors

Pearl Said:

Is there a code of ethics that fertility doctors follow regarding how many times a couple can conceive?

We Answered:

I know people who have had multiple children as a result of fertility treatments. In IVF, many couples freeze the extra embryos, pay to store them and use them in a future cycle.

Unfortunately, fertility treatment is extremely expensive and very few insurance companies in the USA cover it and sometimes there is a limit to the amount of money they will cover . . . this could prevent a couple from having another chance to try IVF.

In some countries where the government does cover treatments, they do limit the cycles.

From my personal experience it is NOT the clinic / doctors that are preventing future cycles. It is usually $$$.

ETA - on the topic of ethics, most fertility ethics conversations lately have been regarding the number of embryos transferred back during IVF. A lot of this is due to octo-mom and that doctors transferred so many embryos back leading to her having 8 babies - a very dangerous pregnancy to the mom and to the unborn babies. It is not about the number of times you do IVF but the number you transfer in a single cycle. If you are in the US (not sure about other countries) you can most definitely have multiple treatments so long as you can afford it and it is medically safe for you. I know many people who have had additional treatments to have another cycle and my personal RE let us know that we are welcome back if we should decide to go for #3.

canadian bar, code of ethics question?

We Answered:

if that interferes with the trial, which then the client would have already fired their lawyer

Code of Ethics - Doctor/Patient, Solicitor/Client?

We Answered:

Here is a link giving you access to the Rules of Professional Conduct for solicitors. Their position is rather different from that of doctors for obvious reasons, so you will not find anything there relating to physical contact. However, if a female client complains that a solicitor has acted improperly towards her, then the solicitor in question may well find himself facing disciplinary proceedings. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:1os_…

We Answered:

Yes... why shouldn't they? I don't quite see the other side of the argument.

Code Of Ethics - Doctor/Patient, Solicitor/Client!?

We Answered:

Absolutely. However, the solicitor/lawyer has an obligation to the court so in certain cases he/she can act in ways that are not in the benefit of the client. (for example if the client tells them that he is in fact guilty)

Vera Said:

ethics question?

We Answered:

Its different. Psychologists and doctors have a much more intimate relationship with clients that lawyers. You invest a lot more trust in those relationships that you would with a lawyer.
