Only YOUR doctor can see your medical file. Even if the CSI were investigating a murder and wanted to see your medical file they would need a warrant at least to search it. Your mum can get into serious trouble and lose her job.

There's no central clearing-house, though it would be quite useful. On the other hand, a quick call to the pharmacy is easy enough.
I can't stress enough how stupid it is to be less than completely forthcoming about the medications one is taking when talking to a doctor. If I find a patient is purposefully obscuring his medications, I'm naturally going to be exceptionally conservative with my prescriptions. It's my business and in the patient's best interest, even if he disagrees. I'd much rather the patient go elsewhere if he isn't going to be honest.

He was checking the colour of the mucous membrane (the red bit inside your lower lid) in the lower part of the eye. If you are anaemic an experienced person can see the paleness in the mucous membrane. It might indicate that he should check your blood for anaemia.

You can check the certification status of doctors at www.abms.org. You will need to register at the site. Also, the web site of most state medical licensing boards allow to search for license status and often more.

There are also several private entities that I will not mention here that provide free information and/or charge a fee. Avoid these as they are unreliable, and often provide inaccurate and incomplete information.
