Doctor Recommended Diet Pills

Jeremy Said:

Is there any diet pills that doctors recommend or are all diet pills unhealthy?

We Answered:

I am on perscription appetite suppressants, called adipex-p. i love it! You have to work out and eat healthy, and this one really works. I have lost about 7 lbs in the first week, and it's not water weight because I have been drinking water like crazy!!!

Kim Said:

Need some help are diet pills safe?

We Answered:

No, they aren't safe. The only diet supplement regulated by the FDA is Alli, and it is relatively safe because it doesn't speed up the cardiovascular system.

Herbal supplements do have medicinal effects, and are essentially drugs. Because the companies call them 'herbal', they fall through an FDA loophole and are thus unregulated. Don't be fooled by the 'natural' tag--plenty of 'natural' compounds can kill or maim you.

Weight loss should be done under the care of a licensed medical doctor, particularly for someone as young as 14. Under no circumstances should children be given unregulated medicines by someone without a medical license.

Specifically, the compounds in Green Tea supplements are overconcentrated and have been shown to cause liver and kidney damage. Where a cup of green tea has 80 milligrams of plant-based polyphenols, just one supplement pill can contain over 700 milligrams of the same substance. Overdosing the body with these compounds can cause serious long term health risks.

Guarana (another compound often used in questionable herbal diet remedies) is basically an amphetamine, and can cause all the problems associated with such drugs: heart damage, liver toxicity, high blood pressure, and increased risk of stroke and heart attacks.

THERE IS NO SAFE SUPPLEMENT. THERE IS NO SAFE DIET PILL. Even the FDA regulated Alli carries with it side effects, and should not be started without first consulting a doctor. Exercise and healthy food is still the only safe (and long-term) way to lose weight. It's not the quickest way, but it hasn't been bettered.
