How do I find a doctor I like?We Answered:
The best people to go for advice for a primary doctor are nurses. Mainly Registered Nurses, they deal with alot of the doctors all the time and can tell you which ones are good or the ones to stay away from. If you decide to talk to an RN, ask him/her if the have a PPO as opposed to an HMO. Nurses choose PPO's because they all interact with eachother and can get a feel for other doctors by talking with other nurses. This is good info, I am a nurse and never really thought about this till I started my career.Rick Said:
How is a referral from a doctor to a non-provider lab facility handled? We Answered:
The way my insurance works, if the lab or dr is out of network, they will pay a smaller percentage. The place still bills my insurance like normal, buy I have to pay a higher percentage instead of a co pay. Some provider though might make you pay up front and get reimbursed from your insurance.
You may ask your dr to send you to an in network provider though.

How do you report a medical center that has horrible service? We Answered:
It sounds like you live in a small town. How close is the nearest city or town? If you don't live to far, you could see a doctor in your network in that town. Since this sounds like an HMO (Health Maintance Organization) you will need to call the insurance company and change your primary care physican (known as the PCP) before you can receive care from the new doctor. You can also file a complaint with your insurance comany. Tell them about the errors with the MRI paperwork and other issues. Let them know that your father has diabetes and is in pain because of back problems and that he needs care asap.
If you are stuck with the medical center in town, it might not be a bad idea to see another one of the doctors. It is a group practice, but the doctors only share expenses and costs, and revenue resulting from running the practice.
HMO's can be a pain, but they do keep a patient's out of pocket expenses lower. I wish you luck, and I highly reccomend getting in touch with your insurance company.

Women of Portland, Oregon ~ Need Pregnancy clinic/doctor referral? We Answered:
I love the doctors at the Women's Health Care Clinic. It's part of Adventist Health Care and have been known to do some charity cases. They will also breakdown your total bill into monthly installments.(503) 256-1470
