I think the previous responders misunderstood your question. If I'm understanding you properly you're asking about the viewing order of the original 1963-1989 episodes.

In general it's still better if you watch them in order but not necessary.

They didn't usually have season-long story arcs like the current 2005-present revival. There are a few exceptions, especially in season 16 (Tom Baker) where the entire year was taken up with the search for the Key to Time, the middle 3 stories (Full Circle, State of Decay, Warrior's Gate) of season 18 (also Tom Baker) and 3 linked stories in season 20 (Peter Davison) usually referred to as the 'Turlough/Black Guardian' arc. (Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Enlightenment). Even with these stories they do enough recap so that you can watch them on their own.

You don’t need to have seen the previous seesons to follow this season. That being said, the whole series is great, and I highly recommend that to you go back and watch the series in order when you have the time and opportunity.
