I think they might be in breach of their professional ethical guidelines if they do that and would want to think very carefully what would happen if someone did take their advice and it didn't go well, and then tried to complain via Yahoo Answers. I think if you are a professional you have to be VERY careful what you post on forums like this one.

Is your doctor a family practice doctor or a psychiatrist? I work in a mental health facility and from my experience, any psychiatrist shoudl be aware of the side effects or withdrawal potential for the drugs they prescribe. You don't need a psychologist...they are counselors. You need a psychiatrist...which is a doctor of psychiatric medication. Check out your insurance to see who is a provider in your area. I know that the withdrawal symptoms of Effexor can be extremely harsh. You should not stop taking Effexor until you are under the care of a competent psychiatrist.
