Doctor Who Proms 2010

Everett Said:

Just a preview clip of Doctor Who on Children in Need. Less than we've come to expect, but is it enough?

We Answered:

Err....reckon you mean 45th there, Phantom old chap ;o)

Granted it's not as much as in previous years, but then Who is in a unique position right now - never before, except in the dark times of the hiatus, has the lead actor been able to commit to a run doing something else, like Hamlet, while in the role. Never before has Who had such sway over the public consciousness (except possibly during the height of Dalekmania - around '66?) - and certainly never before has it had the kind of power in broadcasting circles that it has now.

So I think the break in the show is a symbol of its strength and its success, rather than something they need to compensate for particularly.

And I reckon Who fans are fairly generous sorts at the best of times, and will donate cos it's the right thing to do. Don't reckon they only donated in the past cos they were given something extra. And the thing is, if the 45th anniversary passes quite quietly, it'll just fuel the demand for something outrageously special for the 50th, won't it?

I mean, would it be cool to get a bit more than a 2-minute clip? Hellyeah, of course it would. Do we deserve it as a right? Not necessarily so...
