Doctors In Florida

Leslie Said:

Do any doctors in Florida Do Articular cartilage implantation?

We Answered:

I haven't been able to find any orthopedic surgeons who specialize in articular cartilage in florida, but there is one in Atlanta, GA who would be closer than NYC or Boston.

From his bio:

"Following training in Sweden with Dr. Lars Peterson, Dr. Gillogly is one of the early pioneers in autologous chondrocyte implantation, a procedure designed to grow healthy joint surfaces following injury and thus preventing the onset of arthritis. He is the Medical Director of the Cartilage Repair Centers of America. Dr. Gillogly specializes in cartilage restoration, complex knee disorders, biologic knee reconstruction as well as sports and shoulder injuries. "

Anyone else have problems with doctors in Florida?

We Answered:

Huh, its interesting you write that. First, let me highly suggest you get blood tested for Celiac Disease, your symptoms seem to fit the bill. See the links i post for more info! And feel free to email me for more info.

Now on to your question. I'll tell you my story. I live in Louisiana, where, well, honestly, the medical community isnt the best to say the least. A LOT of uninsured people tie up the system and cause doctors to raise prices.
Anyway, I digress. When we evacuated for Hurricane Katrina I was 37 weeks pregnant with my first child. We left the day before it hit and eventually ended up in Daytona Beach where my husbands grandmother lives. (We knew we werent going home for awhile.) We stayed with her for 3 days. During that time I called around ALL sorts of OB's and docs to see if I could get an exam bc I had missed my checkup due to the storm and, being 37 weeks with all the stress and all I wanted to be sure I was safe to travel on. (We were heading to Jackson, MS to stay with friends.) Well NO ONE would see me!! Mind you, I HAD good insurance! I had a primary doc, of course I had no records with me and my doc was MIA for awhile, but I had been receiving all the prenatal care I could the entire time. All i wanted to know was if I was safe to travel by car all the wayt o Jackson, MS! NOT ONE DOC would see me!! I even went toa walk in clinic and they wouldnt see me!!! Even when I explained the situation and why we were tehre and how bad it was at home, NOPE! I was disgusted. We made the trip anyway bc I felt ok, (I had been 1 centimeter dilated when we left LA and still felt ok.) We made it to Jackson and stayed there a week. During that week I went to a hospital there and they were SOOOOOO awesome! Their doc saw me, they toured the hospital with me, and they even let me preregister in case we were still there when I delievred (I was then almost 39 weeks pregnant.) They were amazing!!!
I did end up being able to get back home to my OB and hospital and my son ended up being 6 days late but it all worked out alright. But I was so disgusted at how the FL doc's treated me! I mean how could they refuse to treat a hurricane evacuee who was nearly 38 weeks pregnant??!! Who had just driven 15 hours in a car!??? In FLORIDA Of all places, where you'd think they would be sympathetic to hurricane victims!!???
So I really do not have a good experience with FL docs, I dont know if it's just the environment, not enough funds, not enough training, or what not. And honestly, how to get them to do their jobs, huh I dont know!!!

But I would push the Celiac Disease test bc if that is what you have then all you needt o do is follow the gluten free diet! No meds, no surgeries! Just the diet!!

Best of luck, Amy

Us there any data published about Florida doctors competency?

We Answered:

What a nightmare. Go to the Florida state medical board site and then enter in some names and see if they have had any disciplinary actions against them. Call the hospital or medical board itself and ask for some recommendations. Keep that info you wrote above handy ( of course I am certain you wont forget) but just in case you want to file a complaint.

What is wrong with Florida Doctors?

We Answered:

Eeek, worst kind to get the WORST of...
Seriously, email me and tell me who!

Well, not all of the doctors here are bad, in fact I have two that I adore because they take the time to really talk to you and actually remember your name! Funny though, they aren't real doctors, both are nurse practitioners... so what does that tell you. I do have one actual doctor that is nice, but it is a walk-in place so I don't always get her.

Sorry about you luck...

What are some good pain clinics or doctors in Florida?

We Answered:

There are regularly scandals in Florida about pain pills and doctors and prescriptions. Too many doctors throwing too many scripts around to too many people for too many pills when the doctor isn't really sure who the patient is!

edit: I use Tramadol (Ultram) to manage my chronic pain.
