How much does it cost to see a REAL doctor in Singapore? We Answered:
there are no 'fake' doctors in singapore...those at the malls are all private clinics with REAL doctors that get their m.b.b.s from top medical universities. most private clinics are located in malls or at neighbourhood shop houses...so unless u dont wanna do those kinda clinics, i suggest you visit a hospital. There have clinics there as well for non emergency cases...but u still gonna wait for your number to be called. If you are visiting a GP in your area for ailments like cold, cough, fever etc, make sure that you do a survey with your friends about various clinics and their consultation charges. anyways it does not matter whether you go to a GP in HDB area or to a well known hospital. All matters is the Doctor !
Tips
* Try to survey locally before heading towards hospital
* Mostly the charges are same in clinics operated near HDBs
* Try to visit the same Dr. always - it helps to build relationship and he/she knows the history well.
* Most of the clinics will provide medicines
* Avoid Antibiotics at first instance, as they are expensive.
Cost : $18 to $60

Singapore doctors have pioneered some techniques in assisted human reproduction.?We Answered:
IVFIn-vitro was found by an Indian doctor from sigapore.
Ratnam contributed greatly to reproductive biology and won worldwide acclaim for his work. A book, 'Cries from Within', was written to explain the procedure for sex change operations in 1970. He also contributed greatly to his medical works by giving Asia its first test tube baby through the In-vitro fertilization process in 1983. Ratnam tried out IVF experiments on rats prior to his first, successful attempt on using IVF to conceive babies.

What are some of the superstitious practices that doctors and nurses have in Singapore? We Answered:
"Bao" not only sounds like "Da bao" but also "bao ka liao" which means handle everything. Beside this, eating mee siam (hot and sour malay rice noodles) can mean "siam" (to avoid something bad), eating soon kway suggests "soon" (smooth in hokkien).Patricia Said:
Singapore doctors?We Answered:
Dr Yeoh Swee Inn, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist, Gleneagles Medical Centre, #07-10, Singapore, 4732622 / 4732387. "After going from doctor to doctor I have finally found a doctor who listens and is up to date with the latest research. I have visited four doctors in Singapore, Dr Yeoh is the only one who tested my Ft3 and Ft4 levels. On my first visit she ordered a lot of blood tests that I had never had done before. The test results revealed anticardiolipin antibodies (hypercoagulation), below normal human growth hormone and Sjogrens syndrome. I have had the symptoms of these other diseases for six years and not one other doctor had bothered to do these tests. As far as I know T3 is not prescribed by endocrinologists in Singapore, up to now I'm not sure if Dr Yeoh has prescribed for to any of her patients. I am taking Cytomel which I get through the International Pharmacy with Dr Yeohs knowledge. My T3 levels were below normal for over a year, since I've been on T3 my blood levels are all normal. Dr Yeoh has allowed me to stay on Cytomel with close monitoring of my hormone levels. I have found Dr Yeoh to be a very understanding and thorough doctor. She listens to everything you say and doesn't make you feel like a nut who has symptoms that no one else in the world has ever had. I highly recommend Dr Yeoh."Another recommendation:
A reader writes: "Dr Yeoh is very knowledgable in her area. She listens to her patient well, she is extremely kind, affectionate and understanding. In an era when most doctors see you as items to tap more money out, she definitely is a great doctor. I looked for to find a good thyroid doctor in Singapore and tried several, she is the best and she us very good. "
Dr Ian Lee, Integrated Medicine, #08-06 Camden Medical Clinic, Singapore, 6333 8618. A reader writes: "Dr Lee looks beyond conventional medicine and believes in using natural options where effective and available. With my symptoms many doctors would have been dismissive however he used data and symptom analysis to diagnose me with female hormone deficiencies, leaky gut syndrome, food allergies and hypothyroidism. All the reading I have done has confirmed his approach and on all accounts was in line with current thinking."
Dr Alex Fok, Endocrinology, 3 Mount Elizabeth #07-07, Singapore 228510, (65) 67346116, alexfok@pacific.net.sg. A reader writes: "Dr Fok sorted out my thyroid problems with a blend of patience, informative diagrams and advice. When I relocated he continued to take my emails, by so doing providing me reassurance that my thyroid condition was well taken care of. Top marks to this doctor." (June 2006)
