Doctors In South Africa
Walter Said:
how much do you have to earn to live comfortably (like in those big colonial houses) in south africa a year?We Answered:
My estimate would be about R 500 000 to R 600 000 per annum would be the minimum to live comfortably as described above.I suppose its also a matter of whether you would be living alone or if you would also have a family to support, in which case a little more might be needed. But then again, most South Africans survive on about R12 000 per annum!Doctors salaries would vary depending on whether they are in private practice or working for state hospitals, in which case it would be less, but generally doctors seem to earn a decent amount (well all the doctors I know have huge houses and lots of fancy cars so I can only assume).

What are your views on the striking doctors in South Africa? We Answered:
Yes, they are violating that oath, especially when you consider this part of the oath:"Into whatever patient setting I enter, I will go for the benefit of the sick and will abstain from EVERY VOLUNTARY ACT OF MISCHIEF OR CORRUPTION and further, from the seduction of any patient."
Seth Said:
How much do doctors in South Africa earn during the 5 year mandatory public service time as Gen. Practicioners? We Answered:
SA doctors previously studied for 6 yrs and did 1 year internship...they now study for 5 years and do 2 years internship which includes one year as "community service"...without this 1 year community service they will not be given a government license to practice. In the attached article no salary is stated other than they are paid a market related salary for doctors with similar experience.
I have however read before that Cuban doctors in SA were paid more than 20 thousand US per annum, ie, over R200,000 pa which is less than what the SA doctors are paid.
These doctors are paid approx. R20,000 pm.

How hard is it for a doctor from South Africa to come to the U.S. ?We Answered:
It will be quite a bit of work, most probably you will have to spend a year or 2 at university in order to prepare her to pass the appropriate qualifying exams. If she went to england or Canada it would be much easier as her qualification will be recognized immediately as they are part of the common wealth.
Rebecca Said:
how much do doctors get paid in south africa? We Answered:
Doctors do not have to do 5 years service in public hospitals. They have to do a 1 year intern ship followed by 2 years of community service. They would be earning in the region of R220000 + benefits, this salary will increase, if they get promoted to a more senior position.
