Doctors In Training

Larry Said:

What Do Doctors At Basic Training Check For?

We Answered:

At MEPS they are checking for stuff. When you get to boot camp it is a full body physical to make sure you are in good physical health and if not to help get you there. Believe it or not many people that enlist in the military did not have the greatest health care growing up so this trip to the doctor may be first real physical they have ever had. Medical in the military is awesome. You never have to pay for anything and you get everything taken care of whenever you get sick or injured. Don't fight it, many people would love to have such access to such complete medical care. You don't need to hide anything from the docs either. The scars on your butt are also no big deal. If you disclose everything they will give you even more medical care for such things are the scars on your butt. You are young so you don't get home cool the medical stuff is yet. Doctors will never give you a hard time so don't worry about it. Along with a full physical you will get every shot known to man, but again this is a good thing. You will also have a full hearing and eye exam. If you need glasses you will be issued glasses. After your medical physical you will get a complete dental exam, dental cleaning and any dental work you may need done, done. Like cavitiies and teeth pulling. Relax about things. You will be fully taken care of and nobody is going to tease you about anything. They have seen everything in the world in their jobs so not too much is going to shock them. Good luck and just take boot camp day by day.

Would lifting Congressional restrictions on the number of Doctors reduce costs?

We Answered:

From the looks of the laws these "doctors" wrote themselves-
keeping the price high is the intent!
I've met these sanctimonious, billionaire "doctors" who have political
connections. They own almost all of the US "health care" system,
and are steeped in expensive taste.

OK with the reference. Would lifting Congressional restrictions on the number of Doctors reduce costs?

yes

Abortion training for doctors?

We Answered:

Yes they should have to study it, It's not like they are being forced to go to med school. If it is an issue, I think that they will have issues about many other treatments and procedures.
I dont think that there are many people out here who would be willing to put their lives in the hands of someone with religious issues that could interfere in the treatment they receive.

If med students are allowed to cherry-pick their ciricculum to those areas that fit into their 'religious' codes, where will they stop?

Do you think that it is a good idea that doctor training is reduced to 4 years in the UK? Would you feel safe?

We Answered:

My husband is a third year med student in the US. He'll go through a total of four years as a student. (Split in half, two years in classroom, two years doing clinical rotations with preceptors.) Then he'll do an intern year followed by a 3 year long residency. He's going into IM and Peds. Other specialities have differing residency lengths. A board certified residency is required for licensing in the US, along with passing the USMLE exams along the way.

Is this similar to the education for docs in the UK?

If it's similar, I wouldn't have a problem with it. In all, it's at least 8 years worth of post-graduate schooling/training. That's adequate for a family care doc. Surgeons in the US have longer residencies. I'd imagine it would be the same in the UK, too.

But please, correct me if I'm wrong. It's certainly happened before!

Discuss It!
