What do surgeons do in Doctors without Borders? We Answered:
i am pretty sure a great number of their surgeries have to do with cleft pallets or disorders that can be fixed to enhance life. In Africa most mothers see disorders as a sign of the devil and therefore ignore their child. A cleft pallet that is really bad can also lead to inability to eat properly and properly develop. Mothers will feed that child less and not allow them to attend school.after the surgery a therapist will help the child integrate and catch up in social and basic physical skills.
I am not sure how many heart conditions occur that would need surgery, but there is a possibility that there are heart defects that can be fixed such as holes or other things.
It is difficult to find Information on it on their website...and I am not sure how completely accurate all of my info is, but that is what I gathered from my OT classes when we talked about drs without borders.

How long is the average tour with Doctors Without Borders? We Answered:
Very honorable of you to want to give back. Sweet. You tour could be as short as a few months to much longer. If an emergency or a crisis ocurrs, then the deman for your service would increase and you could get a short term assignment. Or you could fill in for another tech during a rotation. Start exploring what is available and let them know exactly what kind of committment you can give them.Jose Said:
