It sounds silly but check Angie's List. The Yellow Pages might work. Ask friends. Call the physician's referral line Methodist Hospital or Baylor Hospital. The referral lines let you specific whether you want a male or female, MD or DO, age, distance from where you live, insurance accepted. Some referral lines have a web page where you can enter the info you want.

I suffer from chronic ear problems which is a medical condition and really it is something you have to live with im afraid. It depends on the problem and causes but sometimes there is nothing can do. With my problem i have been going to hospital since i was 6 and it is no better. It is horrible to live with but get used to it.

If you prefer not to explain thats fine just might be able to help a bit more.

Well it doesn't seem like there is anything to lose, since you already don't have any hearing in your left ear.

I think it sounds like a good opportunity since there is nothing to lose.

However, I would find out if there is any down-time in the surgery in which you wouldn't e able to work/go to school. depending on if your life style allows it, i suggest going through with the surgery, but if it will cause you to lose salary that you need, or be hard with say children, then you may want to do more thinking on the matter.

I suggest asking yourself this question:
Will the possible pain and down-time be worth gaining hearing? And will it be okay with me if the surgery does not result in anything new or helpful?

talk to your doctor more as well and other specialists, too.

An audiologist is an ear specialist. S/He is not a doctor with an actual medical degree. Just like an optometrist is not really eye "doctor." A real medical doctor has "MD" after his/her name. :)

If you want to claim on medicare, you need a referral from any GP or other specialist (a GP's referral lasts longer). If you want to pay for the whole thing yourself you can just make an appointment without a referral (but can't then choose to get anything back from medicare).
