Gary Said:

How to become an ENT? (ears, nose, and throat doctor)?

We Answered:

On Otolaryngologist or sometimes Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT) is a physician.

4 or more years of college, in a degree program heavy on the sciences, often pre-med.

MCAT Testing and Applications followed by interviews

4 Years of medical school either allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (MD)

5 years of Otolargyngology Surgical Residency -The program totals five years (including internship) and is divided into roughly one year of general surgery and four years of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

They perform many types of surgery, including: tonsilectomy & uvulo-palato-pharyngoplasty, mastoidectomy, as well as various ear procedures, procedures for cancerous conditions affecting the face and head and neck region and facial plastic and reconstructive procedures.

The salaries vary widely, based on location, and type of practice. The national average salary for an ENT Surgeon in the US in 2006 was $220,100 per year. This is in a range from as low as $146,500 (in New York City, NY) to $ 331,150 (in Los Angeles). (These are estimates based on surveys and reflect salaries in the 20th to 80th percentiles in those markets.)

Jennifer Said:

I went to a ENT (ears, nose, & throat) doctor for my sinus headaches, but it showed no headaches from...?

We Answered:

Sounds like migraines to me. I would ask about that. Sensitivity to light is a major symptom of this. Also, have you ever had neck problems? I have problems with my cervical vertebrae that causes headaches also. Have you ever taken sinus medicine? Does it make the headaches go away? Have you tried Claritin-D? This works great for sinus. But if it is migraines, you should go to a doctor for specific medication for that.
