Find A New Doctor

Sue Said:

How do I find a new doctor after a recent move?

We Answered:

Yes, you just call the doctor. Very few docs, and only specialists, require a referral. It would be best if you asked your old doctor for copies of the records, but if you don't have any particular concerns and you're basically healthy, it is probably not necessary.

As to how to find one, it's like anything else. You should ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. whether they like their doctor. What do they like? How hard is it to get seen quickly? Male? Female? Age? All that stuff.

If you have health insurance, check to see what doctors are near you. Every insurance company these days has lists of their doctors online.

If you can, I suggest you make an appointment even if you don't have a problem right now. Yes, it's an expense, but you don't want to suddenly need a doctor and not have anyone you have confidence in. Make an appointment and talk to her or him. That way you will be an established patient when/if you ever get sick and need someone quickly. Good luck, and I hope this is helpful.

I am prescribed Vyvanse for Adult ADHD and need to find a new doctor due to new insurance?

We Answered:

your dr works for you. if your medical history supports that you are doing well on that dose of medication, there would not be reason to change it. just be sure your current physician knows and reports it to the new one. hmo insurance sucks. it changes just when you get a good rapport with your md then your company gets cheaper rates from another one and the whole process begins again. best of fortune in finding a good one.

Is there a limit on when in your pregnancy you can find a new doctor?

We Answered:

You shouldn't have a problem. My husband is active duty military and we transfered from Illinois to Virginia during my 7th month and I had no problems. Just make sure to take with you copies of your ob records. It may also help to establish contact with a few ob's before you leave CA so that you have some prospects lined up before your arrival and that they are aware of how far along you are and any complications you may have.

What's the best way to find a new doctor / dentist when moving into a new city?

We Answered:

i beleive the best way to find a good anything is by word of mouth, that way you find out how others responded to the work they had done and how professional, and freindly the staff will be to you when u go to see them, and also knowing people u know and like trust them will make you feel less nervous about your choice

28 weeks pregnant and my OBGYN told me to find a new Doctor?

We Answered:

Wow- did he explain what the conflict of interest was? That's fairly bizarre.

First, don't stress- does the clinic your doctor was at have other doctors? If you like the clinic, I would see if you can meet them and pick a different doctor. If not, this might be a great chance to move on and find somewhere you like better.

Of course doctors will see you- that's their job. It's nothing to them if you come to them later in the pregnancy- they'll just care that the proper tests were done earlier, not about who did the test. Women change doctors all the time even later in the pregnancy so it is nothing to worry about. It is just a shame you have to go through the hassle of finding a new doctor.

I would get it taken care of right away though, just for your peace of mind. Try online pregnancy groups in your area to find recommendations if there are no obvious candidates at your existing clinic. There is a lot of support out there- just explain the situation and I'm sure people will help you.

Good luck and best wishes!

I moved to a new town and my insurance just started. What's the best way to find a new doctor?

We Answered:

I would check with my insurance company for a list of approved providers, they usually provide a booklet, and most often it is found in the human resources office of your workplace... Then it is a matter of time, you need to call and set up appts to interview the doctors, It's time consuming, but worth it when you find a care provider that best matches your needs. Also ask your new co-workers who they use, everybody has an opinion the would love to share.

Should I return to my last doctor or find a new one?

We Answered:

I assume that your last doctor did a good job. I'd stay under his care... unless there was something we need to know about your "variety of reasons".
