Find Doctors In Your Area

Russell Said:

What is the best possible way to find the best doctor or most skilled doctor in your area. (Neurosurgean)?

We Answered:

Wow, what a dilemma you have. I can't believe the success rate was so high for the surgeons and you're having problems.

If you know other people who have seen a Neurosurgeon ask what they thought of their doctors. Start questioning everyone you can about doctors. This may be one way to find them.

The other is to telephone several hospitals in your area and ask who is the best surgeon in the hospital.

if you can find a chat room, for disabled people because they are going to know a lot, on the internet for the area you live in, you could ask people about surgeons. many people are willing to help you in a chat room. You just have to find the right one.

if you have any further questions please let me know,

How do you find a good doctor in your area?

We Answered:

I'm a physician and there is only one good answer to your question: word-of-mouth. Since family or friends will not work for you, you have to go to complete strangers. This is difficult if you are shy. The yellow pages, newspaper adds or medical/dental boards will not help you much. You have to take drastic measures: One example is to call a hospitals physician referral service and ask the nurse or secretary, “who is your regular doctor?” Don’t just let them pick from the next doctor from the list in front of them (no better than throwing a dart at the yellow pages). You may have to schmooze or cajole them since it is a private question or because they fear injecting bias into your decision on who you will see. You can really ask this question to any daily human contacts you have who you think are thoughtful and knowledgeable. Other sources are city specific magazines (e.g. The New Yorker or Philadelphia magazine) for the area you live in. You can also try “checkbook.com”, an offshoot of Consumer Reports which rates services in several metro areas. Ultimately, there has to be some trial and error on your part since not even a “good doctors” personality may jive with yours.

Yes, there are such people: insurance brokers. Contact an insurance broker that handles individual health policies. It does not cost anything to get price and coverage information.
