first of all google the name of the doctor and of the hospital. i did this when i had an operation scheduled and i found a law-suit against the surgeon who I was scheduled with. I cancelled with him and then started to do some research on the internet (plus i asked my primary care physician for a recommendation)
Also ask lots and lots of question to that doctor if you have a surgery done etc...

There is a website called vitals.com that contains every doctor in the U.S. and will give you historical infrormation about them as well as rating. You need to know their name first though. Good site.

Get sick? Or go visits a Friend in the hospital. Better still on Sundays go to volunteer to help at the hospital. Most hospitals have a program call the Candy Stripes. they help out the nurses
