Graduation Gifts For Doctors

Patrick Said:

Am I over thinking things?

We Answered:

Here's the deal...you might want to sit down with you mom and dad and talk to them about how you feel. They might not know what your point of view is, you boyfriend should never get involved in between you and your parents. Ask them how would they feel if you did what they are doing to you. You should analyze how you interact with them and see you let them know you would like to spend more time with them.

My wife is pregnant and they're making her use her vacation days on doctor appointments?

We Answered:

An above poster said that you can't get unemployment if your wife gets fired from her job. That's incorrect, though it really depends on how long she has worked at her current job and if she's full time or not. Check into your state laws, but I was a manager in Nebraska and my boss basically had me cutting hours to force people to quit so they couldn't collect unemployment.

First off, your wife needs to quietly find out if other employees are being forced to use their PTO hours for doctor appointments. If they are not, then your wife has a case for discrimination based on her pregnancy, which is quite illegal. At that point, she needs to approach management and inform them that she is going to seek legal action if they don't restore her PTO hours and stop taking it away from her for making required doctor visits to ensure the health of her child. Sometimes it even helps to drop hints that you will get media involved if they don't cooperate. Most businesses can't afford bad publicity in this economy, depending on where she works.

Edit : Make sure she documents everything, in case you end up filing for legal action. Also, type up something ahead of time for management to sign stating that they are firing her for using PTO days to attend obstetrical visits due to pregnancy. This protects you so they can't lie about it by putting something different in her file upon separation.

Anyway, it sounds like her employer has ridiculous policies regarding PTO days and sick days. I have no idea how they justify writing someone up and firing them for using 5 PTO days. Those days are specifically for vacations and sick time, etc., so they're basically saying, "If you use these things that are a benefit of working here, you'll get canned." All I can say to that is what the hell?

I would maintain your plans and just attempt to force the employer into backing down. It's obvious that their policy isn't fair to anyone, and they very well may be attempting to discriminate against your wife in a way that makes her quit so they don't have to deal with her maternity leave. Make them fire her if you have to -- at least then you have grounds to take them to court. I can't imagine a judge will hear about the "incurrences" for OB visits and take any pity on this company. You may very well walk off with her year's salary and some extra to boot.

Edit : Mommy to 4 Boys (or whatever your SN is)... He didn't say she was going to get fired for not showing up to work, he simply stated that she should just get fired. If they're not dumb people, obviously they wouldn't go for a "no call, no show" scenario. The best thing to do is get fired for taking her PTO days. They should have a provision for unpaid days off of work, which should have been applied to her doctor's appointments in the first place unless she requested paid time.

At any rate, every pregnant woman in the U.S. is supposed to get proper medical care during pregnancy. This includes prenatal visits. Unless the management is full of retarded monkeys, it's idiotic to penalize her for pursuing prenatal care to prevent problems that could eventually affect the child and thereby her insurance carrier. No court would allow this BS to happen if it was brought to their attention.

Even if they don't go on their vacation, they're obviously going to run into issues before the poor wife has a chance to take maternity leave. At best, she'll get another month before her employer tries to can her for getting her unborn child checked up on. Better to deal with it now than sweep it under the rug so they think they're getting away with it.

Javier Said:

can anyone help me improve this narrative essay about my accident?

We Answered:

third paragraph first line needs to be "crashed into me"

Fourth paragraph---it should be lumbar area... the only place that lumbar refers to is the back---that would be considered rhetorical.

Last paragraph----how did you know that Mario was on drugs?

Last paragraph----- Instead of "I think I was lucky" try putting "I was lucky" (cause you were)

otherwise was well written----not quite college level but well done.

Ann Said:

Am I misinterpreting this graduation gift from my sister?

We Answered:

She probably is a little jealous. Who knows whether she meant the gift to be a statement or if she couldn't afford any better and it slipped her mind to take the pricetag off. Try to understand how it would feel to be in her shoes and feel like the least favorite child. Maybe you should try to do something really really sweet for her. Maybe throw her a big birthday party and get her a really nice present.

Graduation Gift for New Doctor???

We Answered:

Since his parents are buying him all the equipment maybe you could purchase him something to put it in? Try the first link.

Another unique gift would be a real life model of a Phrenology head. If you are not familiar with Phrenology- it basically maps out what parts of the brain are used for different activities. This would be a unique, and thoughtful gift since your finace is going into Neurology- he would find it interesting to see what parts of the brain are for each function an everyday person preforms- even thought he probably already knows :) ...try the second link

Good luck!

What woud be a great graduation gift for a new Doctor?

We Answered:

I think that the best gift you could give a new doctor would be your love and support. Just let him know how proud you are of him.

Chester Said:

I was hit by a drunk driver on 2/21, How much pain and suffering should I expect to get?

We Answered:

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Yes you should take the driver and his insurance company to court. You should get a good lawyer who is experienced with personal injury who can advise you (don't get one of those guys who advertises on TV.) If you have permanent damage and the possibility of needing future treatment for your condition you need to be compensated beyond your pain and suffering. You should find a good doctor (orthopedist) who can advise treatment that will help you heal quickly. I don't want to guess how much you will get from this, it wouldn't be fair, it is more important that you get better but you need to get a lawyer now.
Please watch out for these things:
1) lawyer only wants you to go to his doctor... this is because they want to drag it out and drive up your bills because this will affect the amount the court awards.
2) treatment that isn't having any effect on your condition.
3) lawyer wanting to rush you for settlement before the full extent of your injury is known.
4) call from the driver's insurance company offering to settle early before all your medical bills are in.

Oh and by the way, to pay for your doctors bills while you are getting better YOUR insurance company may be able to reimburse you until you reach a final settlement with the help of your lawyer. You will have to pay them back. Know that your lawyer will take between 25% to 40% of your final settlement.
Good luck and take care.

Oh and by the way, you probably won't end up going to court, your lawyer will advise you that the driver's insurance company has made you an offer that he thinks you should settle for and you will decide if you think it is enough and accept or decline.

If they are offering 20,000 before you have a lawyer then either this is the maximum you will get and you will not have to give a percent to your lawyer... or 'she' is taking advantage of your youth and expecting to turn your head with 20,000.
LOOK I GOT 15,000 IN 1994 and I was not hurt as badly as you!!! be careful!
