How To Become A Doctor In The Uk
Isaac Said:
how does a nurse become a doctor? (UK)?We Answered:
Congrats on turning things around.I'm in the US, but from what I know, the answer is the same. A nurse becomes a doctor the same way a non-nurse does. No shortcuts.
Nurses are very valuable members of the healthcare team. However, they are trained to approach patients & problems from a very different perspective than a doctor.
Best of luck.

Hey,Well, I hav'nt been through this situation, but on this website there probably will be people in the same situation as you:
http://www.newmediamedicine.com (would strongly recommend u to try this site)
I'm not really sure about how you stand in terms of applying, but I know these websites will definitely help:

http://student.bmj.com/search/pdf/04/10/…
From what I know, medical schools give consideraton to both, people with non-science and science degrees.
If you would apply, it would be through UCAS ( www.ucas.com) .
Loans... no idea.. :), this might help:

The fast track courses are the 4 year ones(compared to the normal 5 year ones) for graduates.
You would also have to do GAMSAT, an entry tests for all graduates applying for medicine.
Oh, and work experience is VERY important.
I know this anwser is very unorganised and far from perfect , but *yawn* really tired rite now. But when I saw ur question, had to anwser :)

How much education does it take to become a medical doctor in the UK?We Answered:
In the UK medicine is an undergraduate course based on A'Levels done in the last two years of high school. Entry is competitive as most persons have A grades. The MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is a 5 year programme. On completion you can practice medicine however to specialisations (pediatrics, orthopedics etc.) are all post grad courses. As you're from the US you wouldn't have done A'Levels but some universities offer a preliminary medicine year for those without them.

What does it take to become a doctor in the uk?We Answered:
You need incredibly good GCSEs. You need at least three A-levels, all in relevant subjects (chemistry, biology, maths etc.) and all with exceptionally good grades. You need to do well at an interview with a medical school and ideally should have some medicine-related work-experience. After five years of medical school and roughly six years of in-house training, you may begin further training to become a GP.
