Internal Medicine Doctor

Gene Said:

Would an internal medicine doctor be able to help me with these 3 problems (one of the problems is gross)?

We Answered:

It's worth a try. When our bodies become toxic b.o. can become a problem. It sounds like you need to try a good internal cleansing program. You can find one at any health food store. Sometimes excessive coffee or alcohol can make b.o. worse. Try fasting a few days with only water, this might help.

Joseph Said:

Should I choose a family medicine or internal medicine doctor?

We Answered:

If you are single, shopping for your own health care needs, I would choose an internist. Family medicine practitioners spend a fair amount of time training on pediatrics, which don't do you much good, at this point. But, if you're planning a family in the next couple of years, getting started with a family practice before kids come along isn't a bad idea.

Mae Said:

for a man, which is better in choosing a doctor; internal medicine doctor or family practice doctor?

We Answered:

Internal medicine doctors, or internists, often are referred to as doctors for adults. In contrast, a family practitioner is trained to deal with the health care needs of men, women and children of all ages. Doctors who practice family medicine may provide a range of health services including preventative care, obstetrics, routine gynecological care and pediatric services.

Like family practitioners, internists may act as primary care physicians; however, their practice is solely concentrated on adult health care. Internists have special training in dealing with complex, chronic illnesses and treating several different illnesses at the same time, so with your family history and age, I would tend to recommend an internal medicine specialist.

Rick Said:

What does an Internal Medicine Doctor do?

We Answered:

correct me if im wrong, but an internist is just a general doctor...like a pediatrician, only for adults. if you get a cold, you see an internist or to get a referral for a specialist, u usually have to see/get one from an internist first (not always).

Daryl Said:

Can an employer call an internal medicine doctor to verify my doctor's note is legitimant?

We Answered:

Of course they can.

Mary Said:

We go to a internal medicine doctor in a group, and the group will no longer treat their patients if they?

We Answered:

It's a common occurence nowadays for a primary care practice to have a hospitalist on staff to cover their inpatients. It makes sense to me as you have doctor focused on inpatient care which is managed much differently than outpatient care. Many primary care doctors are great with outpatient care but often feel uncomfortable managing more complex issues in inpatient care and would perfer to devote their time to see patients in the clinic. On the flipside there are doctors that prefer the "action" of treating more acute illnesses and don't find seeing patients in the office as interesting. Thus the primary care doctors can focus on outpatients and make more effecient use of their time (they don't have to drive from the office to the hospital to see their inpatients and thus are more likely to be on time for their appointments) while there is a dedicated inpatient physician with the interest and training to focus on acute medical issues.

Really, the only downside is that the hospitalist may not be as familiar with the patient than the PCP would have been though often they will have access to all your records or can communicate with the PCP directly to compensate for this.

Ramona Said:

What is the difference between an internal medicine doctor and a encrinoligist?

We Answered:

If your ask about an 'endocrinologist' that is a doctor that deals specifically with glands in the body that secrete hormones. A doctor of internal medicine would not be focused on glands specifically.
