Cassandra Said:

Is it common for ob/gyn to doctors to pre-charge for delivery?

We Answered:

I'm in Australia and had three different obstetricians for my three children. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford private health insurance, and yes, all the obstetricians did charge the main portion of their fee (and it was quite a fee!) towards the end of the pregnancy. This is normal practice here with private obstetricians.

The annoying thing is, two of the obstetricians didn't even end up being present at the births! What a rip-off ;p

June Said:

Does anyone know any great female ob/gyn doctors in Houston, TX ?

We Answered:

Marjorie Said:

Anyone know of any ob-gyn doctors in Virginia that will see you without insurance?

We Answered:

You should be able to begin seeing the Dr. before your medicaid comes thru. You explain that you have no insurance and are waiting for Medicaid to come thru and some places will just have you sign paperwork saying that if your medicaid doesn't come thru they can bill you for the cost of the visits. If you can't find an office that will do that you can pay for the visits yourself until your medicaid comes thru, and then what you can do is contact medicaid after you've been approved and let them know you've been paying for the visits yourself so that you could start your prenatal care; Usually if the visits are within 2 months of when you submitted your application and you are later approved they will reimburse you for those costs. Call around to offices and find out which ones will work with you. And if they won't let you sign paperwork and be seen beforehand just pay for the visits yourself and work it out with medicaid to be reimbursed once your approved.
