Your employer can't force you to reveal a diagnosis, but without specific protections in your state's laws, he isn't obligated to keep you on the payroll if you decline to do so.
As a physician who deals with these things on a daily basis, I have to wonder what in heck these idiots are thinking. They can't possibly be stupid enough to believe requiring a note from your mother cuts down on malingering, and it definitely increases the costs of health insurance dramatically. I personally wouldn't work for anybody who requires a doctor's note for routine illnesses. It's a stupid and short-sighted policy.
