Your program should offer something. If not, try AAA travel insurance.

Whats a good cheap health insurance for a college student needing ADD medicine with a min wage job?

We Answered:

There is no such thing as a good and cheap health insurance policy. With health insurance you get what you pay for. Also, with ADD you may have trouble finding a company that will accept you. Some companies will accept if you are on one med and the ADD is controlled. Most will decline or rider the ADD or will increase the premium if you are taking more than one med. If you have any other pre-existing conditions it will be even harder to find a policy.

You should first check with the school. Most colleges have a student plan available for a reasonable premium. If that doesn't work find a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the plans that will accept you if there are any. There is no extra charge using an agent.

You should also check your states Medicaid website to see if you qualify for Medicaid.

Looking for cheap health insurance website for students?

If you are a full time student under 24 why cant you be on your parents insurance? If you have no health problems, your college has a student health center. Otherwise, you can go to a community or public health clinic and pay according to your income.

Cheap health insurance for college students?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but all the individual plans in my state, and probably in Florida as well, will decline to accept anyone with Bipolar Disorder. Your college may have a plan available that you can possibly get but those plans don't cover mental health in most cases. You can try calling some local agents that work with all the major plans to see if there are plans available to you.

Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well, including FL.

Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.

I'm going to be a full time student at age 26. Is there cheap student health insurance out there at my age?

We Answered:

If you are attending a larger institution you may be able to get coverage offered by the school. Study the coverage proposal carefully because the plans are usually limited in their benefits and network.

If coverage through the school is not available or too limited I would suggest a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than a cheap price. Some might even suggest a discount plan which is not insurance at all.

Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company.

If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.

On the other hand because you are young, healthy and presumably use the health care system rarely you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead.

Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation. They can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and copays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network.

Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.
