Discount Health Plans

Ronnie Said:

Would you like to have a Discount Health Plan for your entire household for $59.95/mo.?

We Answered:

Interested-just not looking to get scammed.

Bob Said:

Health Discount Plan?

We Answered:

I know people that have both. Only because the discount healthcare plan sometimes ends up being cheaper than health insurance covers. We use AmeriPlan for discount health care coverage (the website is www.mybenefitsplus.com/40545943). The rates start at $19.95/mo per household. I think it's pointless to have both...we found it cheaper just to stick with the discount healthcare plan because it was cheaper for our family of four.

Valerie Said:

Does anyone know of a good discount health plan? I cannot afford insurance.?

We Answered:

I have dominion dental, it takes off 25%. Go to Dominiondental.com and check it out.

Looking for health insurance, not a discount plan?

We Answered:

You don't say how functional you are. If you can work, find any job you can that has benefits. Even if you work at it only long enough to qualify for COBRA, the COBRA lasts 18 months and would probably cost $400-$600/month, which is a lot less than $1300.

If you're too disabled to work, you have to realize that no insurance company will insure for less than they anticipate spending for you. But at that point, I'd expect you would have applied for Social Security Disability and perhaps Medicare.

I also assume you have a certain amount of money, because if you don't, you'd qualify for Medicaid, which is at no cost to you. Contact your state Welfare office if you'd like to find out more about this.

Re the discount plans, consider just researching them. Check with the state insurance board to see that they're legitimate. Do online searches to see if anyone has posted anything good or bad about them.

You might also ask at your local MS chapter (find it here: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/find-a-… ), since surely others with MS encounter this same problem. The website also has an online forum.

Best of luck with this!

Richard Said:

Does Ameriplan Dental and Health Discount plan really provide a worthwhile discount at healthcare providers?

We Answered:

Generally, no.

But the way for you to test it, is to call your own doctor or dentist, and ask them how much of a discount they give Ameriplan subscribers. Or just start calling doctors at random, in the phone book.

Searching for a legit health/dental discount card?

We Answered:

Shop around for an inexpensive health insurance, especially one with a medical savings account. With this account, only a little of the premium goes toward the insurance and the rest goes into an interest bearing checking account.

Avoid the ones you see on the internet. Some are not legitimate and can actuall be used to obtain personal information about you and steal your identity. It's happened.

What is a good way to market a discount health plan?

We Answered:

Obviously your target group are those without dental insurance. Find out where these people are hanging out online and go there! I suggest forums. Also try forums where moms hang out.
