Emotional And Mental Health

Vickie Said:

What would be an example of mental health and emotional health?

We Answered:

Emotional health refers to our thoughts and feelings, and their effect on our well-being. Negative emotions, such as anger, frustration, impatience, anxiety, resentment, sadness, despair, grief, jealousy, hopelessness, etc. can create conditions like DEPRESSION or FATIGUE if they are not diminished before they get out of control. Proven methods of dealing with negative emotions are exercise, meditation, stress management, and positive thinking practices. If you need an actual picture, look for one from the drugs ads for anti-depressants.

Mental health describes cognitive well-being, and is often defined as the absence of mental illness. It can be closely tied to emotional health since it intertwines with thoughts and feelings, but is usually related to chemical balances within the body. Mental disorders - such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Alcoholism, Panic Disorder, ADD - are more severe and usually require medication to minimize the symptoms. A great picture would be someone with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome after combat.

Definition of physical, mental/emotional, and social health?

We Answered:

Physical Health is the general condition of a person in all aspects. It is also a level of functional and/or metabolic efficiency of an organism.

Mental health is a term used to describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an absence of a mental disorder. Mental health is the capacity to express our emotions and adapt to a range of demands.

Social Health of individuals refers to that dimension of an individual's well-being that concerns how he/she gets along with other people, how other people react to him/her, and how he/she interacts with social institutions and societal mores.

What's the difference between emotional health and mental health?

We Answered:

Mental Health and Emotional Health often are parts of the same thing. My education taught me mental health were things like clinical depression, which is not the same as feeling sad, schizophrenia, Bi-polar and Borderline Personality along with a whole slew of other syndromes listed in the DSM IV, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders, such as Narcissistic Personality are Mental Health Disorders and usually need the help of medication and intense therapy to lessen and control the symptoms but poor Emotional Health though it carries some of the same symptoms, sadness, sleeping disorders and anxiety usually can be treated and resolved in a shorter matter of time. Emotional Health is understanding what effects you and making changes that improve your mood or unhappy situation. If you are unhappy by the way your job makes you feel or with the way another person treats you it effects your emotional well being but you can change those things by changing your situation or addressing the problem with those who are affecting you. You can be emotionally healthy by recognizing in yourself the areas that have a negative emotional effect in your life. This may require some therapy to help you learn techniques that can help you establish emotional health but that doesn't make you mentally ill or unhealthy. Of course you are not capability of being emotionally healthy if you have an unresolved or untreated Mental Disorder. I hope this doesn't sound too confusing and it may not answer a particular situation you are going through but I hope it helps. It is just a general definition of the two.
