Byron Said:

Why do I always have to take on roles that I don't want?

We Answered:

No, absolutely not. I have never been, and pray never to be, in that kind of situation.

Here's the thing, you had a crappy childhood and thing look like they could be getting worse now having to take care of two elderly parents. You have every reason to be upset, and actually, really pissed off. if anything there is one good thing you can take from your life and family though. It made you strong. From what you wrote and the way you wrote it you must be a very intelligent, caring and courageous youg woman. YOu have a resolve that is lacking in the majority of the world's population, and I envy you that. Hold to that strength, hold on to your heart, hold to your sanity, and I'm sure someone like you will have your happy ending one day.

Here are some of the points that the Conservative Party stand for..Is there any you feel strongly about?

We Answered:

That certainly isn't the Conservative manifesto. Some of it is but by no means all of it.

One line that struck me immediately - "The Government should be compelled by law to halve the budget deficit within 4 years." That's LABOUR policy and it's already been enacted (see the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2010). As George Osborne pointed out during the Second Reading of the Bill, "it must be the biggest load of nonsense that this Government have had the audacity to present to Parliament in this Session." You CAN'T compel the government by law to reduce the budget deficit. What do you do if it doesn't? Put the Chancellor in prison for breaking the law? I have to admit to being totally amazed when the Bill was announced during the Queen's Speech (and I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen was equally amazed at what she had to read out... but of course she did it with a totally straight face).

There was a marvellous moment during George Osborne's speech when a Lib Dem MP asked "Does the hon. Gentleman agree that legislation without sanctions is not worth the paper it is written on?" He replied, "I agree with my-I was about to say "my hon. Friend", but that would be to get ahead of ourselves, would it not? We are all being very nice to the Liberal Democrats these days. I agree with the hon. Lady." By Parliamentary standards this is high comedy.

There's a lesson here for anyone who complains about the government not legislating on an issue. It's all very well passing laws, but if you can't exactly define the offences, or enforce them, or punish someone for breaking them, they are pointless. A good example is the Hunting Act, forced through Parliament by Labour. It bans fox hunting, but think about it - if a group of people want to go out riding on horses, and take a pack of dogs with them, who's to say they are a fox hunt? They could just be going out for a ride because they enjoy it, and if the dogs kill a fox by accident, you can hardly blame them can you? It is enormously difficult to prove that they went out with the intention of hunting foxes, and that's why there have been almost no prosecutions for it.
