European Health Card
Alex Said:
I am an Australian resident with a dual Australian and Italian passport. Can I get a European Health Card?We Answered:
An EHIC card is only for the resident of a country (e.g. UK) which allows them to travel to another country and receive emergency health services. Note the emphasis on emergency only and does not include repatriatioin in an medical emergency, and certainly not if you are long-term in a country and (e.g.) need to register with a local doctor. Therefore even for travellers it is recommended to take travel insurance anyway. If you are resident in a country then you have to abide by the rules for the applicable country e.g. here in the Netherlands it is mandatory for all residents to (pay for and) have a medical insurance policy.
Therefore it is best to narrow down your choices of where you are planning to live, and then check the specific rules & regulations of living and working there.

My European Health Insurance Card has expired, and I am travelling out of the country tomorow? We Answered:
The EHIC card is beneficial if you take ill or have an accident. It enables to have emergency medical help without paying for it. You should have taken out health insurance, so for a day away you should be okay. Having said that, it was careless on your account not to notice that your EHIC card had expired.Andrea Said:
can i claim money back from my brititish european health card for dental treatment i had in the netherlands? We Answered:
To answer your question... I need to read the small print.Arthur Said:
Do I need a European health insurance card when going abroad? We Answered:
The objective of the card is to ensure that UK citizens get the same service in Europe as they would get at home. So, if you require emergency treatment you get it at no extra cost. It does not cover any existing conditions you may have nor will it get you free routine dental treatment.Since the card is free it would be pretty stupid not to carry one.
You can get an application form at your local Post Office.

Irene Said:
How can I find my European health card number online? We Answered:
You can't.There is, after all, no legitimate reason you would require access to such a database. Either you have your EHIC or you don't. If you don't you need a provisional replacement certificate. Your EHIC number alone cannot be used.
If you require a provisional replacement certificate because you have mislaid or lost your EHIC you must contact the sickness insurance institution in your country. You can't just copy the form off the internet and then fill it in yourself.

What is a current European health insurance card and how do i get one?We Answered:
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is a replacement for the old E111 document. It is used to allow you to receive free or cheaper healthcare when you visit certain European countries. They are free, so it's definitely work getting. Even if you have health/travel insurance, some of the policies only cover you for medical things that are not covered by the EHIC. You still need the separate travel insurance though, as the EHIC only covers you for certain emergency procedures, and not for the cost of getting you to the hospital. You would get a massive bill if that happened and you had no insurance.
If you click on the following link it describes the EHIC in detail, and also allows you to apply for one: http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/Healt…
