from my experience they do not usually cover things like that.
i do know, that in edmonton ab canada you can go to the STD Clinic at the Edmonton general Hospital and recieve the shot for about $10 each. Which is excellant compared to The $300 or $400 they are without it.
If you live somewhere else, try looking into a similar place like std clinics or pregnancy clinics.

"My coverage at work is with Great West Life Assure. I wrote to them before our last IVF cycle and they advised me there is no limit/cap on meds with this plan.

I'm sure there are other plans which also allow this kind of coverage. Blue Cross is a Canada-wide insurer that offers supplementary coverage.

My feeling is, if you had a travel insurance rider, you would know, because it would be indicated on your coverage id card.
