Holy Cow! There are a lot. You can get a list of licensed agents from each state from their dept of insurance. However, not all licensed agents are active in the insurance business.

I am in Oklahoma, and there are more than 300 licensed life/health agents here. I would guess 200 are active employees for companies, or in any roles in the agency arena, including the support staff.

I am going to answer your question the best way I know how. If we get universal health care the whole medical system will suffer. Not just insurance agents and companies. If there is a government controlled health care system. The profit incentive will be removed from health care. The doctors and specialist that now go to medical school for 12+ years of training in some cases will dry up. Why would you go to medical school and run up all that debt if you can't get rich in your profession?

The biggest differences, are that in NY, an insurance company HAS to offer a policy - so prices are a lot higher. And in FL, the population 65 and older - and FL has the highest percentage of those - already have Medicare.

Cheaper insurance prices in FL, smaller market.

It will vary by company. Some companies will have a flat percentage throughout the life of the policy, other companies will have a higher percentage in the beginning that will decline in subsequent years. Whatever the agent does make has no bearing on what you pay; you pay the same using the agent or if you buy directly from the company. With an agent you'll have someone local to work with you if you have questions in the future.
