Health Insurance For College Students

Everett Said:

What are some good health insurance plans for college students?

We Answered:

Most students get their health insurance through a parent’s plan or through their college’s or university’s health plan. These are especially valuable options for people with pre-existing medical conditions, since most of these plans cannot turn you down for coverage based on your medical history. You *can* get turned down for coverage (in most states) when you go out and purchase a health insurance plan on your own.

However, if you’re fairly young and healthy, you may be able to find some affordable individual coverage options. It’s hard to make a specific recommendation, however, since each state has its own health insurance market, and you didn’t mention where you’re living.

Here’s what I suggest: Visit an online health insurance agency like eHealthInsurance.com (where I work), or talk with a licensed agent. Online, you can get free quotes from a broad range of health insurance companies and compare rates and benefits to find one that works for your needs and budget. You can even apply for coverage online. If you want to talk with one of our licensed agents, give us a call at 1-800-977-8860. In many states, there are a whole host of health insurance options to choose from, and even some plans specifically designed for students.

Good luck!

Wallace Said:

Is there a good health insurance for college students?

We Answered:

In some states, there is no "health insurance that ... doesn't cost too much", period. In some states, all health insurance, for everyone, costs "too much".

In other states, there is health insurance for someone your age that does not cost too much. However, it is not specifically for college students; it is for anyone your age who lives there and meets the medical criteria, whether or not they are a college student.

Finally, some, but not all, colleges offer their own insurance, which may or may not "cost too much", depending on what that particular college offers.

There is good health insurance for college students who attend colleges with good health insurance or live in states with good health insurance. There is not good health insurance for college students who attend colleges without good health insurance and live in states without good health insurance.

Try asking this again with the name of the state where you live, the name of the college, and your age.

Health insurance for college students?

We Answered:

Usually, health carriers will allow dependent children to be on their parent's policy if they are a full time student to age 24. The age varies for each company, some will carry you to age 25, too.

I would check to make sure you can't get on your Mom's policy. And, you need to do it within 30 days of losing your other coverage. If they won't let you, contact an agent in your area that is familiar with the different companies and can get you the best fit.

whats a really good health insurance for college students?

We Answered:

If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), a national organization for nursing students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.

what do college students usually do for health insurance?

We Answered:

Most college students get on the University Health Care System. It is typically referred to as "the higher education death plan". You pay a lot and get little back in return. For example, if you get really really sick and have $10,000 in hospital bills. You will end up paying a $5,000 deductable. The insurance will then give you a check for $300-$400 and you will have to make up the difference. Your rates will also increase about 300% after you file your first claim. Typically, you pay about $300 a month for the basic care.

Phillip Said:

Is there all-inclusive health insurance for college graduate students?

We Answered:

If you are healthy then there are plenty of good places to get a cheap FL health insurance plan.

Some of the top companies to consider include:

1. Golden Rule (United Healthcare)
2. Aetna
3. Blue Cross Blue Shield
4. Humana
5. Assurant

Watch out for plans with very limited benefits like discount programs or from companies with a lot of complaints like Mega Life or United American.

A good independent agent will be able to help you compare plans and find the best deal for your individual needs.
