Why won't health insurance companies cover type II diabetics for insulin pumps?

We Answered:

Because they can get away with it.
I have Type 1 diabetes, and they won't cover me for one. I am paying for the pump, and all the supplies by myself.

am diabetic, I have no health insurance, am disabled, live in AJ Ariona, I need a doctor, where can I go?

We Answered:

Contact the Public Health Office in Apache Junction:

Apache Junction Clinic
575 N. Idaho St., Sk 301
Apache Junction, AZ 85219
(480) 982-0230
(520) 866-6132

They should be able to refer you to a doctor that will be able to treat you and charge you a fee based on a sliding fee schedule based on your income.

There are a couple of companies that will write a diabetic in Arizona if controlled by diet and one which will even accept you if you are on any medication besides insulin. However, you said you have a lot of health issues so although they'll write a diabetic any other issues will possibly cause a decline.

I'm in AZ so if you email me I might be able to help further.

Health Insurance for Type 1 Diabetes?

We Answered:

You are going to find that almost all companies are going to be expensive because your husband has diabetes. And if you do find one, it may have a waiting period of 6 months to 2 years before they start to cover anything related to his diabetes. If he works and has health insurance there, they should automatically start to cover him. This is a thing that diabetics keep looking for, a good health care coverage that we can afford. They just don't seem to exist.
